Gotta say I think you guys have done brilliantly. The initial concept was poor. This sounds so much better and it's obvious that you've taken all the feedback on board. People dismissing this are being a little closed minded imo.

Gathering only = great
Access to new areas and resources = great
Element of choice when choosing task = great

There isn't much else I'd change other than to perhaps remove the complex-looking rewards that were suggested in the last thread. All other potential balancing issues will, I'm sure, be sorted through feedback/polls.

Was gonna vote no. Will now very likely be voting yes.

What about asking the biggest players for input and opinions?

The core of Runescape, the ones who play 5 hours a day, where the game actually is a part of their day to day life, should have a bigger say, as opposed to raggers and part timers.

I say this with all due respect. I think it would be a nice idea to hear what B0aty, Faux Freedom, Skill Specs, Saber Six etc. has to say. Take those players, if they're interested, opinions into accounts as well as the OSRS team. I think that would be a great idea. You'll get views from people who have different focus in the game.

one note that i would like to make to this, is just like with slayer how you have the ability to purchase more of a curtain task, can that same ability work here so instead of fishing 150 sharks, maybe fish 250 and get more artisan xp?

Absolutely.

As for everyone else, try not to get too hung up on the balancing of it all, that is a discussion still to come. Obviously we'll take feedback on size of assignments and how long it should take to level to make it what you want.

One useful thing to know would be if we incorporated existing items into the crafting assignements, what would you like to see?

It's still a no for me. In many ways it fits OSRS, but in others it just feels wrong. Could Sailing be alternative to this if it fails?

If this skill doesn't pass it is unlikely we'll look to do another this summer. So voting no thinking you might get an alternative offered is not a great strategy.

More importantly though, in what ways does it fit OSRS and in what ways does it not?

When I think of OSRS the first thing that comes to my mind is the community. Artisan is great in that by offering to do tasks for resources you'll see more people together skilling in old and new areas.

Now I personally do not like the rewards when it comes to things like damage boosters or the supreme items. They just make me have more of an rs3 feeling which I don't want. When I say Rs3 I'm meaning overpowered or different for the rs I want.

Thanks mate, we've tried to make it much more skilling focused this time around. What sort of rewards would you like to see?

Looks very good mods!

I am supportive of this, as long as you scrap the damage bonus vs npc's.

I found a small mistake in your post though!

""If you choose another gathering assignment, your slayer master will give you one and you can keep the resources you have already gathered."

Its under " Using your resources ", i think you meant to say artician master, not slayer master. Understandable though, artician is pretty much slayer for skillers.

I like this part especially!
""Construction shortcuts – You can turn granite into slabs which can be used to build shortcuts on the world map, for example building a bridge across the River Lum. When making the slabs you will receive construction XP. These construction shortcuts will need repairing if you want to continue using them."

Maybe you can also make things like ziplines constructable? There are plenty of places this could be used! It would give people reason to train construction other than blowing their money.

I think the skill is really coming together nicely. I can't wait to see it in game. I would like to add a couple suggestions, though.

First, as with Slayer, there should be a way to cancel tasks if they're too tedious for a player (such as a player with a high fishing lvl getting a Karambwan task.) In this sense, it would also be relevant to add a rewards and points system as well, such to reward players who stick with it and do every task that comes their way. Surely the options for rewards would include cancelling tasks as well.

Second, I love the idea of being able to build shortcuts in the real world. The only thing that bothers me, though, is that the shortcuts would be temporary. Therefore I submit: How about along with Granite slabs, there's another higher lvl resource for tasks (say, 70-80 mining) that would allow for building permanent shortcuts? That way lower lvl players could still build the temporary shortcuts, but the higher lvl players get a better reward for their higher lvl.

Can't wait to see this new skill ingame. Keep up the good work!

If that is the case, that'll be represented in the final poll. Nevertheless I think we should give it the best chance possible.

I know, but, given we've been through what, 2 revisions plus the initial concept now? It wasn't very popular at first, it wasn't very popular after the first design, and it still isn't very popular now, one has to wonder when the line will be drawn and it's just accepted that artisan plain isn't working.

Sure, maybe the percentages have swung slightly more to approval since the first concept, but one has to consider that the initial reaction (on the forums at least) was almost overwhelmingly negative. The successive revision have been polishes. That's not enough to turn it around. Artisan needs an overhaul.

Definitely materials that are high in demand, but you know that.

Collecting dragon hides is a great idea if the demand is high. Crafting a lot of dragonhide bodies isn't as it'll just turn into a big pile of money eventually.

What about new abilities such as "crafting" gems. As an Artisan you can learn the ability to crush existing metal items (platebodies, platelegs, helmets, weapons) to look for gems inside them. I'm just spitballing here but there's really a lot of things you can do with this skill.
