wasting so much time on something that will be voted down..

That's precisely the reason we are working on it. In the Update Priority poll, the third most important thing the community voted for was a new skill. We have a responsibility to the community to try and deliver what they want. If something isn't what the community wants, we should make it what the community wants and that's what makes Old School great.

You are missing the point.

This skill is not good on many levels, and no matter how much you 'flower it up', it's still just a re-hashed copy of RS3's daily task system mixed with a re-do of Slayer. People want something original.

While I would like a new skill, Artisan isn't the one.

Most of the stuff in Artisan could be folded into exsisting skills and those changes would make the exsisting skills better. If you want to add a skill, at least make a different one and let Artisan go.

It just isn't a good enough concept to put into OSRS.

Question, will these runes be tradeable. The same for the totems, bracelets, etc.

All the things you can create are tradable.

I'm going to be voting no on this skill. I do not like the idea of having a skilling slayer skill, it seems like its just copy and pasted over for gathering and crafting skills. The person who wrote this dev blog even mistakenly called the master a slayer master...

We're completely open about it being a slayer skill for skilling, it was even in the original concept players voted for. But then, people love slayer so it makes sense.

I just don't like how its not it's own original skill. I'm still open to it if it changes enough, but as it stands now it just seems like a lazily copy and paste.

People love slayer because it is less repetative and teches new ways to train. Better use an existing working idea than creating a ****** new skill (sailing, seriously? you can already teleport)

The people who think Sailing would only be for transportation are astonishingly uncreative....

People love slayer because its original and is rewarding... not because you get bonus xp in fm and get to put death and chaos runes together...

I'm not sure they love it because it is original, I think more because the tasks are varied, there is a sense of completion when you finish a task and the rewards are great. All thing we are trying to emulate in this skill.

No, but you do get a 15% melee stat bonus when slaying monsters, making your xp/hour higher.

I also agree there should be no new skill added to OSRS it's pretty much the reason why everyone came from eoc to this to not have things like this and i agree that the new skill serves no real purpose. I would still love to see us able to get exp or some kind of reward for leaving our maxed eoc accounts behind even though i started the acc in like 05 -.-.

I have taken a look at most of the comments, and it surprises me that a lot of players don't even read the whole Dev Blog. People are still voting no without giving clear reasons why, and if they give a reason then it's just because ''they don't like the concept'' or because ''OSRS doesn't need a new skill''.

However if you read everything, you would understand that these are just suggestions and that Jagex asks you to adjust the skill to something YOU want it to be.

Artisan is not just a Skill because it's a Skill. It has its own function (which is creating completely new items from new resources) along with some existing content, but that's what almost every skill has. You use crafting and smithing to create armour, like you use your woodcutting logs to make bows for fletching and ranged. The Artisan skill is nothing different. It will provide new armour, weapons and benefits on its own which makes it an unique skill.

Just like combat has Slayer, non-combat should have Artisan. A lot of people like skilling, and the new skill provides new benefits and activities which can only make the game better. People who state that it's not good to ''force'' someone to use dead content are wrong.

'Dead content', is something in-game that nobody uses because it almost has no benefits. If something has no benefits, you don't like using it. However if the Artisan skill makes it profitable again, you won't feel this as ''forced content''. No, you start liking it, because you get useful rewards from it.

Jagex has also stated that the skill won't be overpowered, so you don't have to worry about that. But of course the skill has new benefits that don't exist in the game yet. If you can't accept that, there could never be a new skill.

Overall, I think that a lot of people are just complaining to complain. If the skill gets into game, believe me, everyone starts training it and everyone will love the benefits.

Great work so far Jagex, Artisan FTW.

Thanks Fear! Keep them ideas coming!

Just asking, did you catch my idea on page 3?

Yep, I did thanks Lars.

Me too on page 7 lol?

Also w/ the combination runes the other guy did bring up a good point about current existing runes.

What if at 60 or 70 Artisan level you could learn how to combine runes together when runecrafting them.

Example you want to make 25 doom runes so you would bring 25 death, 25 chaos, and 25 pure essence to the death altar. This would then require the runes as the ingredient and is merely an alternative to having the runes combined at the cost of 1 pure essence per doom rune.

This would keep runes steady in price possibly increase them and create a new way to runecraft which doesn't make money and probably wouldn't even be faster.

I was thinking along the same lines, it would be interesting to see what other people thought.

This is an example of where revamping an existing skill/s to include this would be more appropriate and fitting than as part of an artificial feeling inclusion in Artisan. It just doesn't have enough of a link to feel like a well connected concept and so is unappealing.

A new skill needs a strong identify, Artisan is very scattered.
