I'll say this: if Runecraft, Farming, Summoning, Dungeoneering, Divination or the upcoming Invention skills had been polled before entering the main game and needed 75% to pass, I'm pretty sure we
wouldn't have any of those skills
right now.
Runecrafting? Who needs it, you can get plenty of runes by killing monsters. Increase drop rates if needed, you don't need a new skill. Farming? Booorrriinnnggggg. Summoning? That's just an extention of Magic (literally, it was once going to be a part of the Magic skill - look up Life Runes). Dungeoneering is a mini-game, not a skill.
You can imagine how things would have gone. No progress. I'll be honest, I'm not at all impressed by Divination and I'm quite wary of this Invention idea... but honestly, most of these are solid skills that have a place in the game. But if the players had their way, I doubt we would have most of them. Just something to think about. Stay open-minded.
This. I think any of these skills have the possibility to work in the game, it's primarily up to jagex to make it fun, though. The concept itself won't decide if people play it, it's the rewards. The only one of these ideas I wouldn't enjoy personally, would be artisan. That seems like regular skilling, except you don't get to choose to do the parts you enjoy. I'm not sure, though, I think jagex might be able to make that work with a bit of effort.
