Ridiculous reasons I've read so far for voting no on sailing:
1. 'new skills aren't oldschool'
2. introduces new op stuff, or one certain part of pitched plan wasn't agreed on
3. too many skills; maxed people have to level again
4. im not interested in doing it so i dont think anyone else is either

???????
Number 1: Sailing IS Oldschool. It's concept was derived as early as 2007, however Summoning took Runescape in a different direction. New content is a good thing, the game isn't a copy and paste version of what Runescape was in 2007. It's grown since then, and as displayed by all previous OSRS updates (such as Zulrah and Cerberus), the Old School team follow strict guidelines to maintain the integrity and feel of the game, whilst still paying close attention to player feedback. They wouldn't have even pitched it if they didn't think it was a good idea which fit into the existing game.
Number 2 is obvious and they've addressed this multiple times: they'll poll all parts separately, especially controversial parts which affect the wider game. If there's a certain part that the majority don't like; it will be changed.
And Number 3 ... what? Wouldn't new content give you a REASON to keep playing on your maxed account? There's only so much you can do on your account once all skills are 99 (or 200m xp if you go for that). Adding a new skill doesn't in any way dumb down your achievement you already have; it only adds opportunity to build on it.
Lastly Number 4 : you're narrow-minded.

this is some of the most ridiculous crap i've ever read
the same arguments you use here were used to pass '*** marriage'
you are literally just trying to bully people into voting yes by claiming that it will not change anything

As a player of the true and great Old RuneScape (04-07 era), I actually considered voting Yes for this update because I saw nothing in the blog that would be problematic for the game.

However... I voted Yes to remove randoms, and I voted Yes to add Nightmare Zone. Look what that got us, a broken game. Yes, they FINALLY fixed it, but you need to understand that we the TRUE Old Schoolers have lost a bit of trust in the team. We don't want unintended consequences requiring 75% for removal, because then they will simply never get removed.

You should have removed NMZ and AFK much, much sooner than you did. I'm glad you did, and I think the Old School team have probably learned from it, but there are a lot of people probably hesitant to vote Yes just because of historical accidents.

To the people who voted against the removal of AFK for selfish reasons (not considering the health of the GAME itself), shame on you. It's YOUR fault this won't pass.
Long live the Wilderness. Long live risk vs reward in PVM. Long live 2006.

Part of the old school experience is to look forward to NEW skills. It was part of the fun to look forward to something new to train and explore! :(

I'm left with this hopeless feeling (dramatic violin music is playing) :P , that no skill will ever pass. I played the game back then and enjoyed NEW content and skills.

This will be TWO skills now that I fear won't pass :(

Some content IS very bad for the truly old school environment...

Content like Runespan, which overnight made a difficult elite skill afkable. People worked hard for their 99 runecrafting, and then to see it shattered like that was terrible. They made Rc just like woodcutting.

This game is going to slowly die because of the lack of skilling updates that sailing would have brought. The truth is that old school is currently running on the veterans that used to play old school. These people are in their late teens or twenties and truth is, life is getting more busy for them and playing runescape isn’t always going to be a passtime for them anymore. We need new people to join the game, the younger generation.

Sailing could’ve revived the game significantly in the following year but thanks to the hesistant and over-skeptical selfish community, it won*t pass.

It won't pass because jagex didn't have the courage to come into their very own forums and discuss the matter beforehand.

It won't pass because there are voters from RS3 that don't want OS to get something before the main game does.

It won't pass because there are people who don't want change.

It won't pass because much of the 'yes' voting community are constantly belittling and insulting to those even leaning toward a no vote.

Who's selfish?

I would say these people are the most selfish. It's rude to not vote for something that would not affect you, and other people would enjoy.
