For me it seems strange that the majority of EXP comes from Building, this then seems like a Construction minigame. You should get the majority of exp from like what you've said in other places such as completing random events etc. That seems much more like a sailing skill :/

Agreed, majority of exp should come from exploring and random events. You guys said yourself you want to promote adventure, what is the adventure in sitting around in a dock, or whatever it is, and building ships, waiting for them to finish, go do another skill, come back collect your exp and get another build going? Don't turn this into the skill farming please.

Boat farming is exactly what it sounds like!

It never mentioned that this will grant the majority of experience. It only states that it is for those who like to grind out a skill at a constant rate. I'm assuming since it is kind of like farming where you have to build and wait, I am sure that will grant the majority of experience along with navigating the ship. Common sense.

I think the building itself will be expensive as hell, like con. If you want to profit, you can probably do exp from exploring, etc.

Okay sorry but I completely disagree with the sailing locations

There are some very illogical designs here which completely contradict each other, and I shall explain why.

So as your sailing increases you can make crystal boats with dragon and onyx figureheads.

So your boats go from looking like wooden pieces of junk to elegant and beautiful crystal designs.

That's fine.

BUT THEN...

wtf is this?:

1 - Port Sarim
10 - Catherby
20 - Port Khazard
30 - Feldip HIlls
40 - Relleka
50 - Port Tyras
60 - Southern tip of Desert
70 - Wilderness
80 - Mos Le'Harmless
90 - Burgh de Rott

Burgh de rott which is the highest requirement (around the level where you will have magic and beautiful crystal boats) looks really ugly. The whole place is rotten and destroyed, as fitting in the quest line. So you are telling me that, when I get 99 sailing in my **** crystal yacht, the 'best' place for me to do it is some rundown crap hole full of ill people?

How does that make sense?

The crystal/magic/onyx designs will completely contradict with the surroundings. Why should the elite sailors have to travel to a run down awful dead town to sail their best boats? This is wrong. They should be sailing in a Yacht club that looks fancy and fits the design.

IDEA: MAKE A 'SAILING GUILD' (PORT) TO TRAIN SAILING IN

So please, reverse the list above or re-think it completely please. Perhaps make some 'new' ports.

IDEAS FOR POSSIBLE PLACES TO SAIL FROM:

~ Shipyard in Karamja
~ Piscatoris fishing colony
~ Port Phasmatys

Also dislike how sailing is already planned to have unlocks up to 99. THis was a crucial flaw with Smithing about to be made again. Zeah is coming within a year now and Sailing can be a huge part of that but if all of the level brackets are filled, then there is no room for expansion unless its horizontally.

For Exploration based skills, the training methods tend to be where they fall short. But it seems Sailing has a great set of training methods. Also, I called it for building ships being like tree farming. I don't have much else to say besides the training methods sound great.

The building process seems great, with the multiple ports and customization system. I really do like how you need to wait for the ship to be built like tree farming, which should mean the best experience is from exploration and not just building yet still allow building to be a viable training method.

The Navigating seems interesting; I assume that is more like the current charter ship routes. Not sure how good of exp they will be but I like the first time bonus on it. And Exploration seems like the heart of the skill, the main variety to training and part where team sailing will be fun; I love the current concepts and can't wait to see more.

This is literally a minigame.

Difference between a skill and a minigame...

Mini-games have no progression and get rewards with points.

Skills have progression with rewards/un-lockables as you level.

Technically any skill on Runescape can be a mini-game as well, it is all about how you structure it.

Move along with the mini-game criticism.

Doesn't Port Phasmatys make infinitely more sense than Burgh de rott as the level 90 port area?

Making it port phasmatys allows the port to be accessed by players who have completed the questing for their account and didn't do the two defence-xp giving quests required to access that area.

Don't alienate that portion of your player base, Burgh de rott needs to be replaced with Port Phasmatys.

That is something that players have to face for limiting their accounts. Just like how ironmen will most likely not be able to do the group sailing. If you want to do everything the game offers, then don't limit your account. That is on YOU...NOT Jagex.
