sounds awful. a mix of farming with treasure trails, construction, and temple trecking.

hoping the osrs community has a mind and wont just buy into the jagex hype.

this wont get my vote

==if u want dungeons, put in dungeoneering, just poll rewards and content
==if u want to update farm, construction, craft w/e this 'sailing' is, update those other skills
==if u want osrs to be different than rs3, dont put in rs3 content like ports

Interesting training methods however I cannot see what the basic skill idea behind them is. Lets look at Hunter as an example:
- I can track kebbits.
- I can tease grahhks.
- I can catch butterflies.
These doesn't make hunter a skill. The skill behind hunter is "The ability to capture and kill animals".

Sailing (or any skill added to the game) requires a basic concept behind it, not just a series of content. Here you have suggested;
- Player owned ports & ships.
- An expansion to the ship transportation network.
- Randomly generated sea adventures.
All of this can be fun and implemented without any need for a new skill.

Where is the 1 line explanation of the skill? and How could you add another minigame or training methods relating to the skill.

I like the ideas you have given but you clearly haven't thought out what makes a skill, you have gone to the name "sailing" because it is popular & you've designed content around the idea of sailing however it doesn't have any of the key features that a skill requires.
If you are to design a skill that could have sailing inside of it then that would be perfect but for now you've just approached creating a new skill from the wrong direction.

What makes a skill, a skill, is the ability to progress with levels and unlock content at different levels. What makes a minigame, a minigame, is not being able to progress and just earning points to unlock rewards at a shop.

If you want a 1 line describing the skill....

The ability to manage and captain a ship on the high seas.

Haha just a shot. But all skills don't really need a basic concept..especially a skill that integrates multiple skills together.

"The content you run into will be different every time as you take on randomly generated seas that will throw a variety of challenges your way. "

Now you got me really excited. Also make it so that exploring gets you the most exp. I don't want a Farming 2.0.

I wouldn't mind sailing, but I still plan to vote no.

If you don't mind it, just vote yes for those who do? Unless you don't want it, then vote no. But it seems like you don't care if we have it or not. :D

ehh... im still not sold... im in between yes and no... yes because i love new content... no because this will work better as a construction mini game..... this skill just screams construction....

The only difference is, it is no where near a mini-game.

A mini-game has no progression and uses points of a sort to buy rewards from a shop.
Skill has progression and unlocks new content via levels. It is easily a skill with how it is structured. Yes, it can be structured like a mini-game, but the way it is structured, it is not a minigame. And you can't just shout construction since it has crafting and smithing as well, and of course sailing to places.

Sounds like fun except for the ship building giving exp in similar manner to farming. Building ships should give very tiny bits of experience to match the effort and training sailing as a group should be encouraged. I'd also like to see the PVM and PVP related to sailing actually be difficult for maxed mains in good gear.
