not a skill that forces us into doing something we don't want....

If you apparently don't enjoy skilling, why would you be going for a max cape?

you obviously don't know me,
i love skilling... but hate playing a game called dungeonering (GAME ... IT ISNT A SKILL)
especially hate it taking over two hours to do a level and when i'm about to finally get to the boss... the damn thing locks up kicking me out and losing all that time with zero dung exp

or being berated and shunned by players because i cannot type as fast as them (includes trying to click and type) i play games to calm down not to get worked up by bullies and impatient jerks

a max cape is supposed to show you accomplished something but instead it is a carrot jerked away as soon as a few get close

Dungeoneering has its flaws, but that doesn't mean those flaws will come with sailing.

If you truly loved skilling, wouldn't you just be happy to skill for the sake of it? Why do you need the max cape to justify why you're doing it? I mean sure, it's a reward at the end of it. But surely the biggest reward is that you had fun skilling while getting it. You don't need a max cape for that, and surely the prospect of having another new skill to train would be a good thing as it's another skill to have fun training.

Skills should be a universal mastery of a specific area with access to unique abilities and their related rewards.

I cannot see sailing, which can't be used on land where practically 100% of activities on Runescape occur (apart from quests), being added as good content on par with already existing skills.

Sailing already exists as a mode of transport in Runescape that lasts a few seconds.

I'm not against a new skill, but preferably I want it to be one that actually IS a skill and not some meaningless attempt at trying to add new content. It's good that you want players to help determine the specifics but that's going to be hard to do with sailing.

if you dont like to play with other player because you have no friends and the other ppl dont like your playstyle, because you are too slow, why dont you play dung / sailing solo?
Its not that slow and you can play hit the way you like it. If dungeons took you 2hours it would be faster to solo them anyways.
Just dont interact with other player if you dont like to.....
The dev blog says that it will be possible to solo sailing and they wont make the same mistake as before. Dung xp for smaller groupes were drasticly improved later on --> They know that force players to groupe up does not work. I personally enjoyed dungeoneering more than everything else after i reached lvl 90 and all the ppl left who were just flaming etc.
I dont get it why ppl say it will be **** even before they know anything about it. Jagex did say anything about the challenges you have to do etc.

Personally my favourite times spent on runescape have been the first week a new skill has been released. I was around for slayer till dungeoneering with construction probably being my favourite one.

Agentx1 has a point though. I'd imagine these concerns would be covered in the next blog on it.

How on EARTH could u not want sailing? With the possibility of underwater dungeons and potential of underwater bosses?!? This game is suppose to be an ADVENTURE! The only complaints I read that have explanations are about "wasting time" (when they already said in the dev blog that it wouldn't push anything farther back) and "not wanting to max out another skill or messing up xp rates"... Just because you play this game on the BORING GRIND doesn't mean other people don't want to explore! If you are looking at this new skill as something you'll have to grind, then I'm sorry, you play this game wrong.

Could say the same thing about slayer, farming, construction, and even runecrafting really, you can't train those skills (technically) out of a controlled area.

But also consider the resources and other new materials discussed which you can get from sailing. So I think it'd serve its purpose and be very fun, and if not a skill I'd still love to have it as a mini-game at least.
