I don't want this to be a thing, I'm scared that osrs will become like rs3. PLEASE don't add summoning or dunging thats RS3 not osrs. I like how there's special content for osrs, but I beg of you to not ruin osrs with adding rs3 skills :( either way, I want this to be polled. Thanks for keeping up the game! I need a Phoenix's Gang Member for Heroe's quest. Someone help please! IGN: Marissla
....since 2008.
the cut of your jib

if you remember the sailing rumors were due to a pix of the ship that would sail from lumby area to dung area. and that is exactly what it was DUNG!

i said then that there wasnt enough new about sailing to make it a skill. i can see it as an extensive mini game but not a skill that forces us into doing something we don't want.... no need to poll, NO! is my answer

for months my tears of guthrix were wasted on the new DUNG, whatever my current eoc dungeoneering level 95% of the exp came from tears.... exp that could have gone to better persuits i also stopped playing for a couple months when DUNG came out and i see this happening again with sailing.... jagex just slipped

I think Sailing has a lot of potential.

As an IRL skill, there is a lot of facts and detail involved in it I'm sure...

different types of knots to learn
different types of boats from an old Irish Currach, to larger pirate ships or viking longboats
all the materials and tools involved in building vessels.

construction, crafting, and smithing can get involved in shipbuilding

It could be a massive skill.

If sailing smaller boats, then agility and strength are necessary...

and I'm sure Odysseus among others prayed to the Gods for safer passage...

It's a great potential for factual and mythical, legendary content to go into the game.

loads of references to myths and legends - loads of content can go into sailing.

in a nutshell Sailing could be a million times better than Divination ;-)

Trouble is though, like dungeoneering, it might be more like a game in itself, than a skill. It really depends how our OSRS team plan it out.

I'd vote yes and take a chance that it'll be decent.

Oh, I forgot to mention Zeah - Runescape expanding is a good thing imo.

Also, people need to forget about the jokey perception that Sailing has had in RS historically, and consider that it's a potentially valid skill.

Will definitely VOTE NO! Would be much more happy with a skill like Dungeoneering or Summoning like someone also mentioned in one of the first comments. Those were definitely much more interesting and fun skills! (Especially Dung)

I'm betting anyone with the completionist's cape will become seasick of this new skill

So you are anti all new content?

I remember the sailing hype during 2007-2008 and also that picture of that mage fighting elvarg who wears a blue cape. This cape was then presumeably the sailing cape. I think its an amazing idea to add sailing. Do not **** this up!

I would also like to sea how we control the ship when we are faring. Hope it's not just clicking on the minimap, but really controlling the ship by steering the sail and rudder and lets not forget about the wind. Because this is really where sailing is about.

Training sailing through building a boat, dunno, that is more contruction/crafting. Sailing is really exploring the seas. Only exploring the seas should give sailing xp in my opinion.

Finally, I saw a lot of peaple talking here about prefering summ/dung over sailing. Summoning would change the game too much and probably disbalance the game. And for dungeoneering, I really hated that skill.

SAILING FTW! :)

They would also need to change view distance while out at sea. Can you imagine being in the middle of an ocean while only being able to see 15 tiles in a single direction. It would feel like a black box with blue floor, you couldn't see land from any kind of reasonable distance away and most of the time you'd just be sailing blindly if they release it with the current graphical limitations.

(go stand at the tip of f2p karamja pier near glory tele and look around you)

EDITORIAL:that is gambling with the life of the game(see my poison comment)

this definitely, like dung, is a large mini game and, as a skill, will end up just like dung.... they are even talking about PvP with 5 friends vs a lone sailor (reread the article if you missed it)

i dont know about the poll that asked for a new skill, but I'm betting if they had mentioned WHAT skill it would have gone down in a viking glory of a fireball

actually a skill that helps normal activity is only thing that would pass a poll by name and summoning has been kicked from the possibilities (although that might be because it required a person to fight to get charms so a combat 3 pure could not level summoning)
