I will say that when talks and rumors of Sailing began in 2008 and never died down, I hated it. It sounded like the stupidest idea ever to me. I did not think it would be a good skill whatsoever.
However, this Dev Blog actually has me intrigued. I also have faith in the our OSRS Dev Team. They have been providing great content day in and day out. The [so far limited] information given about Sailing sounds really cool and I like their ideas for it. I love the randomness that we would find, you would actually unlock cool things and make major discoveries via exploration, etc.
The only thing I really hope they plan properly is the training aspect. This detail and component of the skill always had me worried and leaning towards not wanting the skill. My concern is that training the skill doesn't mirror Farming or RS3's Player Owned Ports. DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE of making it so you have to wait like 12 hours for the ship to come back for you to collect your exp. There needs to be a way for people to actively train the skill and get exp in real-time for every action. I see that building ships will provide exp and may be a way to grind the skill but if you choose to go on voyages, you should be getting exp gradually for distance traveled or time spent at sea.
