Why not focus more on features like the G.E. Database and Adventures Log?? Those would be much more welcomed to the community in my eyes than making things more unrecognizable.

It's what I'm saying, I prefer better systems than appearance.
Remember that an efficient car has a good engine and not its chassis.
I'm not so sure that metaphor has much of a foothold in this situation.
I get it, it's the scripts and systems inside you think that matter, not the CSS and appearance. But truly, truly, in terms of web design the 'engine' can be just as influenced by how well the '*hassis' is built. One of ideal outcomes of this redesign is having a single, responsive site that looks and functions well on all devices. The responsive CSS will allow them to have ONE site that adjusts to fit the device it's on, currently the site is not very mobile friendly.
I have nothing but respect for those that want to honor the nostalgia of the current, classic design, I know it does that for me, but that shouldn't stand in the way of ease-of-use.
You are right, but I think you should think about greater efficiency in time and then invest in design.
I think investing in design is just throwing money in the trash and wind players with something that is not much use.
This right now.
And yes you get the metaphor.
