Afaik pretty much every free game nowadays are coupled with MTX, and Jagex has tried to keep it out of the game as long as they could but the reality of the situation is that it is needed. People refer to the glory days when the game was free and without MTX but times have changed and that model isn't going to work.
Except OSRS is not free and the paid members will still be effected by MTX. Microtransactions themselves are fine, but only if they are done correctly, which is something Jagex are not capable of.

You know what doesn't work? Subscription models, adding microtransactions to that just adds fuel to the fire.

Every big MMO I've read about also have ways to pay for membership with in-game wealth, basically their version of the bond.
What MMO's?

I'm sure there are others that do have bonds, I'm not denying that, Jagex actually stole the bonds idea from another game (eve maybe?).. I don't really see what your reply has to do with my post..

The situation we're in is more comparable to other MMOs, which many let players pay for their membership with in-game gold such as EVE, WOW, and Wildstar. There is probably more but this is just from a few secs searching on google. And I'm pretty sure WOW doesn't even have permanent F2P, its a trial.

Yep I have seen this on other MMOs as well. EverQuest uses Kronos, and I think Guild Wars 2 calls theirs Gems. As well as the MMOs you listed. It's been on most MMOs already for years before RS3 even introduced its Bonds. :)

I thought I'd post this even though it's been mentioned a couple of times. People are still saying that they will vote no because having bonds on Old School = allowing real-world trading. Just thought I'd summarise the actual effects.

People can already 'legally' RWT.

First, buy bonds on RS3 and sell on the Grand exchange and then gold swap the RS3 gold using a friend or someone you trust to Old School gold. Gold swapping has always been within the rules of the game and this won't change, whether this bonds poll fails or not.

Adding bonds basically removes the element of trust-trading, so it'll make this process safer & easier, it would probably increase the amount of people who buy gold too (legally). While at the same time giving Old School permanent F2P.

For me it's an obvious choice what to vote in the poll.

Wow doesn't do it.. they're considering it but it hasn't been done yet.. and WoW also has unlimited chars under the one $15/month subscription compared to RS one account for *10

As for wildstar.. a quick google and all I can find is "why isn't anyone playing?" "**** load of players quit" "quitting, doing raids is impossible since the game is empty" Not really the best game to compare to...

Anyways, the main problem with MMO's is the subscription. People don't care to pay $10 a month to play a game any more, the only reason games like WoW and RS are still 'big' today is addiction, but very few brand new players are joining so the game will continue to decline in population. The game should just become Buy2play or full F2P then port the game over to consoles/steam. Pretty much every new MMO has gone this route and we're talking about games with a much larger budget and using massive IP's (Star wars for example).. There should be no "P2P" or "bonds" to begin with if you ask me in this day and age if you want your game to grow.. Having a subscription model hurts the games growth and it's not just MMO's, look at all the new recent games that can be considered 'big' they have all been buy2play or full F2P - Heathstone, League, even Destiny which is an MMO didn't have a subscription, though it was a bad mmo.

Yes bonds will make the game slightly more easy but here the thing id rather have this game not die and be forced too play eoc once agian or try and find a private server also if bonds are ~3m osrs gp and they cost arroudn 6 usd for some one too really buy an expensive item such as a sgs they would have too spend over about 60 bucks to just get that one item and 30m+ gp will leave the game making all the gp you earn worth that much more . bonds will save this game from death and your achivements may be slightly devauled but atleast youll still have them other than having a dead game

And that is what bonds are there for...people who don't want to pay the monthly fees can easily cover subscription costs with their in-game wealth.
So why has RS3 and all those other games you described "dying" and declining in population if bonds are the perfect solution? It's not the cost so to speak that puts people off, it's the fact you have to pay monthly, whether that be through in game gold or real life money that puts people off from even starting the game.

Subscription based games are a thing of the past and there's a lot more people breaking their addiction to said game and quitting than there is brand new players willing to try them out hence why they are all declining in population.
