I find it absolutely astonishing that after such a long, arduous effort to install the trading post, it has just been thrown completely to the wayside essentially just because it was released, broken.
The reason for the trading post not being as successful as you would have hoped was not because the community just wanted the grand exchange (heck, you already polled for the grand exchange, and we made our voices heard: we don't want it - why you even have to repoll it; certainly so soon after the previous poll is beyond me) - the reason the trading post has been unsuccessful is because it is not as effective as other tools at the disposal of players *coughzybezcough*, at doing the job which they need it to do - giving us the chance to communicate with players in a quicker, more effective manner, to make trading easier.
Installing the grand exchange does NOT help in this regard, and is NOT the most viable option in terms of developing trading in osrs. I wholeheartedly believe that, if done correctly, the trading post is all that is needed in this game. Make buying offers possible, make it so that you can open the trade interface through the trading post, make it so that those with private chat turned off are not listed, heck even make it possible to message people directly through the trading post itself. Whatever. All that matters, in making this idea work is allowing EASIER COMMUNICATION BETWEEN PLAYERS. THAT is what is key in trading, and that is what allows for better negotiation, and ultimately a better community.
What is NOT needed is a faceless be-all-and-end-all store where you can go to to get anything for a set price. Frankly, you may as well just stock every general store in the world with every item in the game, and be like "take your pick". It really takes something out of the game. It makes the game a heck of a load easier (which for a MMOR** is NOT a good thing), and due to it being automated, means that you have no freedom of negotiating. NO to GE.
