When they arrived at Senntisten, Saradomin and Armadyl found carnage which increased the deeper they went into the city. Demons, vampyres and humans were all being slaughtered for the sake of chaos, and their killers were celebrating the rise of Zamorak who had just ascended after defeating the Empty Lord. Then Saradomin turned to Armadyl and whispered,
"Armadyl, now we must work to bring peace and order to the world. Take the Staff back from them, I will entrust you with its protection. I will find the Stone when our business is finished on this empire."

Armadyl was shocked that after giving Saradomin his warning about the Stone, he still insisted on using its power.
"Will the dragonkin not bring destruction and chaos of their own? Saradomin, there is every chance that they may kill you - I have seen the decimation of Kethsi back on Abbinah. It is too dangerous!"
The god of wisdom replied to him in a calm tone,
"This has to be done, Armadyl, otherwise the carnage you see here will spill out over the universe, including Abbinah. Please, help me to bring light to the shadows here so that this world may know peace."

The two gods arrived at the Divine Palace, and found the body of the Empty Lord crumbling away into nothing. Mahjarrat, demons, vampyres and humans all circled around him, all in a state of shock. Then Armadyl picked up his Staff, and Saradomin called out in a thunderous voice,
"The Empire of the Empty Lord is no more. We have come to banish the new god Zamorak from this world, as punishment for daring to oppose us. And we have come to claim the Stone of Jas and the Staff of Armadyl, to prevent their use for evil. This is the decree of the Alliance of Light."
Then they both departed to a cave filled with energy, and Saradomin asked Armadyl to bring the aviansie to Gielinor, and wipe out the shadows that he spoke of. Thus began the Zarosian Extermination.

I have enjoyed your multiple installment story thus far, Ancient Drew, but I question the existence of a "Zarosian Extermination". I had a forum thread about this a couple years ago, in fact, citing various sources. The only reason I can think of for players suggesting there was an "extermination" is that there are no Zarosians left anymore.

However, if we follow the Roman parallel, there are no followers of the ancient Roman gods left. This is not because the Christians "exterminated" them. And considering that everyone believed Zaros to be dead, I can see why many would convert.
The Asgarnian ale must flow.

It's not really a true extermination, but they consider it so due to most of the Zarosians being massacred or converted, the entire Empire being buried or burned to the ground with very few traces left, and those surviving Zarosians keeping their faith private. This would have led the rest of the people to not know anything about the other gods at all, as they had come to believe that the only gods around are Saradomin, Guthix and Zamorak. Even Armadyl and Bandos got lost in history after they left, and Dionysius considers them demigods at best.

The same could be said for the Romans, except there is literally nobody left who even believes in their gods. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there were those who dismissed the Roman gods to be myth. In short, it's not so much an extermination of Zarosians, as wiping out evidence that Zaros existed.

Armadyl returned to Abbinah, and told the aviansie of Gielinor and what he had found there. Fresh water easily accessible, great variety of food, always a place to make a nest and live...the only problem was fighting for the sake of destruction and chaos. Coexisting in peace and justice worked for the aviansie who nearly killed themselves in a desperate struggle for survival, so Armadyl felt that it must work for the people of Gielinor too. And so he asked his kin to come to Gielinor with him, and fight for justice.

The vast majority came with him willingly, so much so that he thought they all came with him. They were eager to come to a new world where they wouldn't have to fight for basic commodities. And they were more than happy to share this bounty with other beings that would coexist in peace, as Saradomin and his followers did with Armadyl. And they hoped that this would be the last war they would ever have to fight.

When they arrived at Entrana on Gielinor, they were struck immediately at how easy it was to find water. Some of them went to the sea to drink, only to realise later that it was undrinkable. It was their first ever encounter with an ocean, as the only water on Abbinah is found at its core. The human monks showed them how to use wells to access fresh water, and coexistence blossomed between Saradominists and Armadyleans.

After a while, they departed to the mainland and found more humans. A few of them from the west came to offer Armadyl their fealty, and together they worked to bring community and peace to a world which was being ravaged by strife. The god of justice welcomed and offered respite to all those who faced conflict and strife, and the Armadylean faction worked slowly but surely to create places for rest from the troubles people faced. Peace reigned in the western part of Gielinor, and all was looking good for the Armadylean pursuit of peace. They enjoyed 20 years of the fruits of their works until...

Zamorak returned from Infernus, infused with new power. He had become a god himself and attained legions of demons fighting at his side, and then proceeded to declare war on all the gods on Gielinor, Armadyl included.

Although Armadyl continued to pursue the path of justice and coexistence, oftentimes his followers had no choice but to divert from this path. Eventually the aviansie god turned to Saradomin for support in ensuring his people's survival. And the god of war, Bandos, had arrived from Yu'biusk with goblins, ogres, trolls and an assortment of other creatures he had bred and trained for war. Bandos offered the Alliance of Light his assistance, and so the God Wars began in earnest.

Zamorak had the majority of the former Zarosian army at his side, along with vast numbers of demons fresh from an uprising against the Chthonian regime on Infernus. But there were some Zarosians who still remained loyal to the Empty Lord, including the dreaded Nex. It took the combined forces of the Alliance of Light and Zamorak's own forces to stop her, and imprison her in the Temple of Lost Ancients high in the mountains of Trollheim.

After Nex and her army was imprisoned, and the mighty pontifex Azzanadra was held in a pyramid in the desert south of former Senntisten, Zamorak proceeded to attack the Alliance of Light. The battle raged on for a thousand years, and Saradomin hatched a plan to defeat Zamorak once and for all with a new weapon: the Godsword. Armadyl was tasked with delivering the sword to Saradomin's forces, but the aviansie were ambushed by Zamorakian demons, and were forced to fall back into the temple.

Then all of the other gods sent their forces in to attack. Each army took up positions in the corners of the temple, and thus the battle for the Godsword began. The other gods fought ferociously for the Godsword, but the Armadyleans fought only in self-defence as decreed by the god of justice.

Bandos turned against the Alliance of Light, but continued to attack Zamorak's forces. Armadyl looked at the god of war in disgust, unable to miss the pleasure he got from spilling blood. Then Saradomin turned to Armadyl and told him about an amulet he gave to Kree'arra, the general to the Armadylean forces, that would empower him in the battle against Zamorak. But before Saradomin could say anything else, Armadyl asked him,
"Did you touch the Stone of Jas?"
The god of wisdom replied,
"I did what I had to. My general, Zilyana, has suffered terrible injuries to the dread K'ril Tsutsaroth, and if I had not used its power to save her life, this world would be doomed."
Armadyl was shocked that Saradomin insisted on using the Stone after giving him warning of the Dragonkin, but Saradomin continued speaking.

"There is far worse news. Nex has escaped from her prison here in this temple, and she is decimating our forces as we speak. We need your help, and Bandos and Zamorak too, to stop her before she destroys us all."
Armadyl was bewildered; how many sides were to be taken before justice could finally prevail? Eventually he agreed, and all the gods rallied their forces to return Nex to her prison of ice, although not without taking major casualties. Then the gods took to Forinthry, the continent-sized plains once occupied by the Zarosian Empire, and continued fighting.

Zamorak sent dwarves manning huge cannons and war machines against the other gods' forces in the plains.
"In the name of chaos, I will destroy you all and set this world free!"
he roared over the blasts of the cannons and flames. Saradomin thundered back,
"Your curse upon the dwarves has stripped them of their magic! These Imcando that I have saved will bring light to this world."
The Imcando dwarves were in smaller numbers and had weaker bodies, but their machines were superior. More explosions reverberated...

The God Wars took their toll on all life, and the Armadyleans were slipping in their pursuit of justice. The god of justice was always willing to pursue his goal of peace and coexistence, but often in such times his people found themselves in situations where they simply couldn't avoid conflict. And to make matters more complicated for Armadyl, he heard that the amulet Saradomin gave to Kree'arra made him act differently to normal, in ways that would benefit the Saradominists in particular. He also discovered later that the Bandosian general, Graardor, and K'ril Tsutsaroth of the Zamorakians had similar amulets sent to them. Although Armadyl was confused, he thought no further of it; he chose to ally with Saradomin after all.

3,000 years passed, and Zamorak was finally cornered on the plains of Forinthry. Armadyl, Saradomin and Bandos all stood before him, and the god of wisdom demanded that Zamorak give him the Stone of Jas. Zamorak refused, however, and accused Saradomin of betraying him. Armadyl was confused about this, but more worried about the god of chaos using the power of the Stone. He pleaded with Zamorak to stop, fearing that the Dragonkin would come and destroy everything. Zamorak ignored his pleas, and stated that order and tranquillity causes people to stagnate, and that chaos lets them grow.

The god of chaos then asked Armadyl to help him, but the aviansie god made his mind up.
"I am sorry, Zamorak. I cannot allow chaos to engulf this world."
It was at that moment that Zamorak stood up and drained a massive amount of power from the Stone, and the whole continent of Forinthry became engulfed in a roaring flame. The ground shuddered, and Armadyl thought he could hear a pained scream over the destruction. The Alliance of Light used their power to conjure up protective fields...

Using the Romans as a parallel would be a mistake. They did not have most of the known world hunting down every last vestige of Roman existence. A closer parallel would be that of the fall of Troy, but on a much larger scale. Though I doubt any wooden horse were involved, just lots of mindless violence and vandalism.

Did you know the Vandals were a Germanic tribe that went on a nomadic excursion, a big circular trip of southern Europe, if I remember rightly. Hundreds of thousands strong they were more like locusts. What they didn't take they destroyed, just because. Not even the Romans managed to stop them. Luckily once they got home, they stayed there.

Zamorak could be considered the wooden horse. It is possible that he approached Saradomin or one of his followers after being dissatisfied with the Empire, in return for getting the Stone. And the violence was probably deliberately instigated by Zamorak after Zaros fell, so that the Mahjarrat could fall back into their old roots of Freneskae. Although it may not be considered a horse so much as a Russian doll that brought down the Zarosian Empire, as shown in the Ghostly Robes miniquest.

The research was well intentioned, even necessary. A single mage had been holding open a bridge to the abyss for some time. It had started as a way to get runes for the Zamorakians, it was a dangerous undertaking. One slip, or his death could spell the end for every one. Imagine his surprise when his Abyssal Bridge one day self stabilised. A brief warping of space had proceeded it, and it was not natural. Leaving an Acolyte to watch over the bridge, he set off following a slight warping effect. It was time to investigate.

It took a while to find and the first evidence was a modest fortress with the remnants of a shielding spell shattered by an attack. With his experience with the Abyss investigating showed the shield had been holding the effect in check. He was not the first to arrive, there were others, and this fortress was anything but modest on closer inspection, it ran deep. He'd only visited Daemhiem once, but it was enough to see the similarities.

The thing that concern him most was the Abyssal warping effect, his own experience let him protect himself, but he still had to sneak down may floors to try and find the cause. Alas he could proceed no further. There were factions controlling certain floors. Experiments ran amuck monstrosities and the warping effect was affecting the invaders well, things that had crawled out of the abyss when the shield collapsed. Some hints point at things that have been in there there since the first Great Revision.

It was a war zone, that if some of the notes could be believed stretched down 61 floors. An abyssal research facility, each floor a barrier that lessened the effects. And something guarded an artefact on the bottom floor.

The notes were unclear, but whoever ran this facility may still be down there. Had the research been co-opted? Was something invading from the Abyss?

Cont...
