After the meeting in Iorwerths tent came to a close, Lord Xendiu, General of the Warfront, decided to pay respects to his old childhood friend Erheian, who was recently promoted to Commander. On his way, he met Head Mourner Erisday, who casually asked him where he hurrying off to at such an hour. When Erisday heard his purpose, he sighed heavily and said:
"Have you not heard, General? Lieutenant Erheian has fell ill, and has not left his tent since the morning. There are rumors that the doctors do not know what to make of it, and they say that he will not live for much longer."
Alarmed at this development, Xendiu thanked Erisday, and quickly parted ways to find the Lieutenants tent. It way past midnight, and most of the troops had retired to their tents. It was still dreadfully hot, and there was no sound besides the occasional passing grenwall.
There were two guards situated outside of Erheian's tent. Seeing the Commanding General, the two exchanged glances, but solemnly allowed him into the tent. There Xendiu found Erheian lying on his feather-bed, and reading
The Settlement of the East
. Xendiu noticed the blanket was stained with blood.
"Xendiu!" exclaimed Erheian in surprise. "I did not expect to see you so soon. I did not want you to see me in this state, and therefore refrained from telling you. I hope you understand"
The Commanding General nodded, and Erheian motioned his servant Emil to find Xendiu a seat and pour him some wine. "How long have you been in this state, brother?" asked Xendiu. "It has been ten days." replied Erheian. "Ten days! Why have you not told anyone of this sooner? You would not have been required to accompany Iban in such a state." Erheian laughed weakly and replied, "They say I will not live much longer. I did not want people to say that the warrior Erheian had only been promoted because they thought he would die soon anyway
