This is the difference between the Mahjarrat and, say, the Aviansie:

The Mahjarrat are immortal and powerful, giving them a crucial role in history while individual Aviansie are insignificant.

There are only a few Mahjarrat, making it easy to focus on individuals. If the Aviansie were numbered less than two dozen then they could get the same treatment...but Jagex decided to bring them back to life.

Mahjarrat are naturally mysterious. Without knowing the lore, you have no idea what they even are. The Aviansie are bird people. Without knowing any of their history it's obvious they evolved into such due to the state of their world that gives flying a competetive edge.

Along with the above, the Mahjarrat are more interesting as a species. The aviansie are just generic bird people.

The Mahjarrat have an impact on Gielinor. The aviansie have no current impact on Gielinor. They want to invade Gielinor, but are too weak and insignificant to even recognize. Armadyl is the only one worth recognizing as a threat.

The Mahjarrat have more interesting Gods. Zaros and Zamorak are at the center of everything. Zaros has the most story focus and Zamorak has the greatest ties out of any deity. He's the only God connected to every living faction, to the Elders, and the Dragonkin. They are some of the oldest Gods in terms of lore. Armadyl is just a dulled down Saradomin with little lore and even less connection to Gielinor and the main story.

In addition to the above, the Mahjarrat actually have a relationship with their deities. None of the Aviansie have a real relationship with Armadyl. They just...blindly trust him for some reason. There's nothing personal and we don't even have a group challenging him, considering he's the reason their race almost died.
Runescape doesn't need a hero...it needs a villain. An all encompassing force of evil that will remain ever-threatening and use chaos to make the peoples of Gielinor tolerate each other, grow strong together, and fight side by side against this evil. I am that villain.

We need an Armadyl quest.

Though if I ever do it, he will likely be upset that I stole his staff in Temple of Ikov.

In my defense, I was really young when I did it, and just wanted to be evil.

...

Anyone who stole that staff is basically responsible for this entire mess.

I'm a monster.

I don't really think this is the best argument for the lime-light. Sure any random aviansie is not as important. But think of a human like Robert the Strong, an aviansie like Kree'Arra, an Icyene like Effarity, or a centaur like Elora

There are plenty of individual from races that aren't mahjarrat, that are just as mysterious and powerful and some of them already play a crucial role in the story, sure they might be more individualized but RS shouldn't have a central story arc unless it includes a broad base so its enjoyable for everyone.

In truth they are more mysterious than the mahjarrat at this point. Even if I know all the lore there is little I can tell you about Saradomin and his followers I can write a book about all we know about Zamorak, Zaros and the Mahjarrat even going further into their more minor followers we have massive amounts of lore on them as well.

If you like that stuff that is awesome, but I'd rather have lore that tells us a little bit about everything instead of what we have now which is every minor detail on a particular chain of characters ie Zaros Zamorak Seren and the mahjarrat.

This quest did not aid Zamorak either, I am a zamorakian, but Zaros gets something out of this ( should'nt he have died by now anyway, having the wrong simulacrum as body and all ).

We could barely pick a side to influence it.
I want both Zaros and Saradomin destroyed.

The issue wasn't about who it aided so much as it was about who/what it covered.

Also, Zamorak DID benefit. He and his followers got a big power boost (there are more Zamorakian mahjarrat than Zarosians, so this benefits the Zamorakians more.)

Also I didn't realize you were an expert on how long the divine aspect of Dark Energy can live inside a Light Simulacrum.

Honestly though, I feel like we may just be better off helping every god we come across.

The Wand of Ressurection was still retrieved and placed either in the hands of Saradomin or one of his most dedicated followers. The only difference is whether you angered Saradomin or not.
Betraying Zamorak or Sliske didn't affect their power levels at all, it just made one of them hate you. And if you helped Sliske... after that one quest where he steals your soul he hates you anyways. It seemed as though the correct option was to aid Zamorak.
Even if you did sabotage Zaros, that wouldn't matter, because the power he absorbed from Mah can probably sustain his form much longer.

Also, befriending or earning the respect of every god may allow the World Guardian to negotiate some sort of peace between all or most of the factions. Armadyl, Seren, and Zaros would support that goal because it fits in with their ideology. The Godless could trust you simply because you aren't a god, and were blessed by Guthix. Saradomin and Zamorak would be harder to sway though. And lastly, Sliske would need to be killed.

In case it wasn't obvious, your choice in FOTG is going to have no impact whatsoever. It won't make Zaros stronger or weaker, it won't put him at risk of death. It's cosmetic and nothing more. They could have at least given the people who sabotaged Zaros something though.

Like, maybe the duel turns into a stalemate, and the ensuing battle threatens to wake up Mah again. Zaros proposes the deal, Zamorak reluctantly agrees on even grounds, and gets to keep his wings and dignity (I don't mean this as an insult - I honestly think that Zamorak has gotten kicked down far too many times in the lore.)

The thing is playing the game from the factionering perspective doesn't work, jagex plans to make a very linear quest line, so although there is the illusion of choice, that's just what it is an illusion, the introduction of factions makes no sense imo, since there was never any intentions of letting the player play the game as a member of a faction, jagex wasn't going to give us real choices in the quests.... just illusions, so we are given the choice to join factions, without the actual intention of letting us support our faction during quest and help the faction get closer to their goals, so why allow us to join factions in the first place?

Well they obviously are banking on factions GWD2 and Sliske's Endgame is supposed to be based on your choices. It is just them seem to favor factions over others in regards to the main story arc, which is fine there is no doubt that the mahjarrat, Zaros, and Seren are more important but they should give other gods a bone too.
