From all the evidence, I think it appears as if the adventurer came from a family of traveling performers or something of the like. Think the old stereotype of gypsies.
They traveled the kingdoms of runescape, sticking mostly to Saradominist regions, hence the player's inherent Saradominism. Lumbridge was the city they stopped in most often, hence the Lumbridge connection. The adventurer was the musician of the group, playing the small piano they took in one of their carts. All the traveling game him his taste for adventure, and perhaps his brother was a sort of puzzle-master, giving brain-benders to all the audience and giving the adventurer a taste for puzzles.
However, something went wrong in the camp. It may or may not have been the adventurer's doing, but whatever it was, it forced him to flee. As he headed for an island escape, his boat crashed and his head was hurt, causing the amnesia that made him forget how to do everything. All he remembered was the alias he had chosen to escape his past, though in time he gradually got back details of his old life that are mentioned in quests.
Anyway, that's the story I've pieced together from all this. Awesome thread.

Well, seems to fit mostly with my character's history, My character was born on the Tutori isle (less cliche than Tutorial Island) was raised there, and had the profession of woodsman there.. but he always dreamed of something more. The day he met an actual adventurer who told him stories of the world he'd seen, Varenon decided he would finally leave on an adventure, but first he learned everything he could from all of his fellow inhabitants on Tutori Isle, then his adventure began...

He talks like he knows you while fighting. Most people don't see it because they are worried about fighting. Watch a video of the Balance Ele fight and see if you can catch the points where he talks. Come the Sixth-Age, the world will need the World Guardian.

I don't know who thought of the BE dialogue, but it seems like its an enigma to everyone. I don't think Jagex will ever clarify it though, as its interesting enough as it is, an explanation is unnecessary, and if they do try to explain it, they may end up just ruining the mystery of it all.

@Runeomatic, I like that, perhaps our display name was a performance name of sorts, perhaps after hid family died, (perhaps in some horrific incident that somehow made the adventure enjoy, well, adventuring) he/she developed Post traumatic stress disorder and simply repressed most of the memories, and near anything that reminds him of his past.
"We call it being a hero"
"That's interesting, we call it utter stupidity"

The Balance Elemental is said to exist in the past, present, and future, if I recall. Perhaps he had some sort of alternate-tangent-timeline scenario where he could foresee all future events and potential paths, and saw that you'd end up being a Guardian of Guthix down the line. In said alternate timeline, he didn't die and became pals with you.

Granted, that idea reeks of flaws, but it may hold some water. If he did exist in all points in time, wouldn't he have known Guthix would be slain by Sliske? Seems like something he'd want to make the other Guardians aware of somehow. And he'd also have to know that Lucien would steal the SoJ, and should have convinced you to stop the battle so you could both focus on Lucien. This is why alternate time theories suck; far too messy to make something truly viable out of it.

My two cents on the BE matter, for what it's worth. I'm ultimately going to go with the fact that Jagex may have originally planned something different for our background and/or future that would link the BE dialogue with our character, but it got scrapped. I wouldn't be surprised if the BE dialogue got retconned sometime soon, either.

The Balance Elemental was said to have been a human empowered by Guthix with great power. My guess is the BE might be the reincarnation of a family member or even Hazelmeer that was killed by Lucien. This is my idea though. If the Adventure was born in Lumbridge. There was a battle for Lumbridge between Goblins that was said to have killed many people. Come the Sixth-Age, the world will need the World Guardian.

Look on the back of some of the characters and there's a sticker that says 'Made in China'. Bot jokes aside, I think it's on purpose that we have no real background aside from starting in Lumby (Lunar Diplomacy).

My theory about the Balance Elemental is that he is Super Jack the Fantasmic from Meeting History. He was among the first humans to use magic, was a friend of the player, and knew Guthix personally. Possibly coincidental, but Meeting History is a requirement for WGS, although that goes for alot of quests.
