When you talk with Hans in Lumbridge:

Hans: "Hello. What are you doing here?"
The player is then given four options:
- I'm looking for whoever is in charge of this place
- I have come to kill everyone in this castle!
- I don't know. I'm lost. Where am I?
- What do you do here?

(Father Aereck's dialogue, is similar, but likely just an unusable joke.)

I realize this was probably dialogue referencing the players start in Lumbridge (starting stories like, Tutorial island, Learning the ropes, made the player start in Lumby). But if you were to make it into an argument... you could think indeed of it as underlining the player's amnesia or traveler's past. For me the first is most logical...

Because there seems no real place that properly fits...

Quests and dialogue in Yanille suggest theplayer arrived there, later in his/her adventures. The Elven and Eastern lands are totally out of the question, as are the dwarven city, Gnome kingdoms and the Morytania area. Also Al-Kharid and the Kharidian desert seem unlikely (see e.g. WOM). IN Relleka the player is also seen as an foreigner. For the player not to know Lumbridge... it would seem unlikely that the player is from the empires of Misthalin (Varrock, Edgeville, Lumbridge & Draynor) or Asgarnia (Falador & Port Sarim, Burthrope) and Taverley. Also Karamja is unlikely...
In all these places people do not seem to know you. Not in small villages, not the typical people (like preachers or shop keepers)... no-one.

Unless you accept the partial-amnesia idea (cause: maybe an accident in the Bandosian areas or somewhere in the wilderness), the traveler idea seems empty. A lost traveler with partial amnesia seems the best explanation to me:
- Got an accident;
- Lost some of his/her memory;
- Got up, stumbled and traveled all the way to a city (used to be Lumbridge, now there is no start, just the start of an adventure career);
- Traveled more, ended up in Burthrope and then the start of our current adventure.

The story of us is such a simple one, we were raised on a small island that was known as 'tutorial island', there we were taught how to survive and live in the world while we were growing up, when we were old enough we left the island and came to Lumbridge to start our life as an Adventurer ^_^

With the new tutorial on the island of Ashdale, we seem to spawn at our house(?), and since we seem to know alot of the NPC's on the island, we can assume that we are possibly born or at least has lived there for a while. One of these NPC's is Sarah, who we appearently know quite well, since we call each other nicknames, and says she'll miss us etc. Is she just a friend, or possibly a sister or even some sort of lover?

Just my thoughts! ;D

Cool thread. I try not to think too much about my character's past...because I wouldn't have been there witnessing those events! For the same reason Jagex likes to avoid creating any story about the player's history prior to gameplay.

Even though I guess this is me making up my own history...I still don't want to be too direct with it. I like a little mystery or obscurity for my past.

~

I was raised in Lumbridge for the first part of my life. I didn't know my real parents or much about my childhood (I like to keep the earliest stages a mystery at least, makes it more interesting) but I worked with a merchantman in the town, selling odds and ends to travelers. Hatchets, pie dishes, daggers, tinderboxes, maps, buckets, pots....you name it.

Well meeting so many different people, some who had fantastic stories to share of their journeys to the western kingdom of Kandarin to make audience with the King Lathas, or their crusades across the River Salve where they encountered ghasts and managed to spot a vampyre between the mists. One man claimed he fought a colossal beast beneath the sands of the Khardiain Desert, an enormous kalphite the size of the Lumbridge church. Although I think he was making that tale up.

I heard so many stories during my time as a merchant's assistant. It sparked my interest in the wider world. What lay beyond the fields of Lumbridge and the market of Draynor...the greater lands I had only heard of in fantastical stories. I had never even been to the city of Varrock before, although I had pestered my master constantly for some gold to make the trip. He didn't understand the joys of wanderlust and was content to stay in his tiny abode in the middle of quiet old Lumbridge.

For weeks I kept imagining myself somewhere else. I dreamt of adventures to the north, striding through the Wilderness where only the dead were said to endure. Discovering the mythical King Black Dragon believed to dwell below the ashen floor of the plateau. I pictured myself
And to protect the Stone until such a time as, near to death, whereby you are relieved of all duties and shall henceforth be returned to your home plane with the gratitude and blessings of Guthix.

studying the art of runecrafting, an eventually mastering the skill of rune magic myself. I would cross the River Salve like those travelers I had met, and meet a dreaded vampyre in combat. I could help people too. Villagers like the ones I’ve grown familiar with at home these past few years, in Lumbridge. Maybe one day I would be noticed by a nobleman, or a king. I might become renowned adventurer like the rest, aiding those in trouble, exploring the wide expanse of Gielinor and beyond!

Although I wouldn’t have a clue where to start. Those adventurers were likely born to be the legends they’re known as today. I doubt I could ever scrape a tenth of the courage and power they exercised. I should probably cease with the childish fantasies and get along with my job as the merchantman’s assistant. I’ll probably do better at that than anything.

Unless someone would teach me. Help me learn the skills of an adventurer. I heard the smith across from our store discussing the island just due south of the Wizards’ Tower. People go there to learn how to survive on their own, to learn the ways of combat and resourcefulness. The tutors on the island vary in different expertise and pass on the knowledge to youth in hopes of continuing the line of adventurers in Gielinor. It sounds like the place I could begin my journey. It might be years before I find myself galloping through the Wilderness, or treating with the barbaric Fremenniks, or battling dragons trapped in forgotten dungeons, but at least I have my starting point. This island sounds like my first destination.

I packed a carry bag with an inventory of small possessions to last me the distance to the ships at Port Sarim. Food, a hatchet, a tinderbox, a couple of gold coins and a bronze dagger in case I run into any highwaymen. They’re notorious for stopping humble villagers in their tracks and pillaging their rucksacks. I left a note for my master to read when he opens the store at daybreak. It details my plan to travel to the shipyard west along with my reason why, and a fond farewell, giving my gratitude to him for allowing me a place in his home, and a position as his assistant. Once I reach the port I’ll pay for a ship to take me to the island. From there it’s wherever the path takes me. I have no idea what is to follow, what I will find or encounter, where I will be after learning the skills of the island tutors. And that sounds like the life of an adventurer to me.

Got carried away I guess, sorry if it turned out a long read :P
I didn't really base this on fact about our character's history ingame. I basically just misinterpreted this thread and designed a story for myself. Ah well.

Does make you wonder if the character had a more dubious youth ...
We can prove to be quite adept at stealing, breaking and entering, and killing (And that's without even getting into combat)

Can you imagine having been a ruthless petty thief and thug before bonking our head on something, and the call to adventuring was nothing more than the need to work out our feelings for killing ,stealing, acquiring wealth and fame?

This clearly implies that the Adventurer used to attend to school as a child. Their school performance is unknown,
but seeing that poor children tend to get lower grades than richer children
, we can assume that the Adventurer didn't do well at school.

I was interested in reading this thread, but I couldn't read more than a couple of paragraphs beyond that statement. I just kept coming back to it. That's... no. Just no. No, no, no. It's too stupid. I'm out. Abandon thread.
