Bluntness is actually the opposite of edginess, Unicow. :) I have no interest in spamming the thread with more drama though, so toodles.

When you're so edgy everything becomes a personal attack because you're just too edgy to think otherwise.

We were discussing this a couple of days ago in the FC, and I was just curious what everyone's take on this is:

Do you think the game would be better without tiers? Which is to say, there's only "Elder Gods", "Gods", and "Demi-Gods". A Gods power is more individualized depending on their talents and knowledge.

In general I think power levels/tiers are terrible, ruin immersion and should be left behind the scenes... but Jagex handles them pretty well. Not to say that the game wouldn't be better off without them, but at least they're not a huge detriment.
for most of the gods, i could guess their power level fairly closely... I wasnt off much when the tiers were released

except for seren. A few quests and lorebooks later, you'd have realized she was pretty powerful anyway, but at the time it felt like a fairly major... development

and they do also keep saying that one god being higher tier doesnt always mean 'god a beats god b in a fight'

my opinion is that the god tiers are just a summary of everything found ingame, in a way that you can easy understand... new people dont have to read absolutely everything to know this now
so... good thing

For the record, while I did start this, they were the ones who brought it into the FC. I merely said that I knew you -from- the FC. While I do apologize that it spilled over into the FC, and will avoid that in the future, I don't think I really did anything you didn't deserve.

Have a nice retirement though. You might want to avoid calling me the "little man" BTW, considering the whole running away thing and all.

You left the Clan when your attempt to get them to hate/kick me backfired, of course they'd follow to get some context as to why some nobody was interfering with them.

I'm not surprised by your behavior by any means, It is after all in line with Typical Saradominist trope. But like you need to keep being told, Resentment over the internet isn't healthy, Fantasies of violence against someone over the internet isn't healthy either, Behave yourself Sky. Just pop in a Frozen DVD, sing along to let it go, and try to move on with your life. :D

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some retirement to enjoy.

First off, I’ll preface this by saying that this probably won’t be popular among staunch Armadylean players who identify with Armadyl’s ideology as it’s presented in the game. That said, as far as I’m concerned, the first priority should be to portray the gods as intriguing characters, surrounded by interesting events, rather than as morally agreeable characters. For the most part, the major young gods fit the bill. On the other hand, Armadyl, while he does have the excuse of a lack of content, is not one of them. This is all highly subjective, of course, but I’ve decided to present an interpretation of the character that I personally think would have been much more interesting.

Motivation:

First off, the aviansie fighting in the God Wars Dungeon should be the only surviving members of their race. No deserters should have made it back to Abbinah, or, at the very least, they shouldn’t have survived there. Unfortunately, the concept of bringing back races thought to be extinct/on the brink of extinction has become a recurring theme in Runescape, so there’s no reason to get invested in it.

The death of Armadyl’s people was the ideal opportunity for a major behavioral shift for the character. Sure, he took on the “aspect of the phoenix,” but now he’s more or less just a less interesting clone of Saradomin rather than his underling. The motivation of his personal tragedy would have been much more believable if Abbinah had never been repopulated. Guilt, a desire for self-redemption, and a desire to enact justice upon those who harmed his people should be the factors that drive him to action, not the dream of an idealistic utopia.

Side note: Armadyl never thought to return to Abbinah and check for any surviving aviansie before going on a depressed, soul-searching journey across the universe? Seriously? I don’t buy it.

Personality:

Now as I mentioned, Armadyl’s personal tragedy should have had a much more profound effect on the evolution of the character. He shouldn’t just be the same character, making the same mistakes, with the exception of a newfound willingness to kill whenever absolutely necessary. He should have become a much grittier character, one with a pessimistic outlook on the intrinsic nature of good. He should almost have a sense of self-loathing for failing his people. Additionally, there should be an inner turmoil present within him, which brings me to my next point.

Ideology:

The upbeat, optimistic, peaceful coexistence-hippie approach is nothing short of annoying. We have enough peace-seeking gods as it is, and they’re all much more interesting characters. Instead, the aspect of justice so commonly associated with Armadyl should have come to the forefront of his beliefs. Not a clear-cut sense of justice, but one that he struggles to differentiate with revenge. He seeks justice, but revenge seeks to consume him. He should constantly be struggling to find that line.

Actions:

This would all have led to an excellent added dynamic in the conflicts of the Sixth Age. Instead of having a six week staring contest with Bandos, he should have been actively hunting each of the other major gods, blaming each of them for their role in crimes against his people. He would also be acting mostly as an individual, in direct contrast to the others, who hold vast armies under their sway. In this sense, his role would bear a faint similarity to what we know of Skargaroth’s actions prior to his death.

Armadyl’s reasoning for having a vendetta with the other young gods? Zamorak killed most of what remained of the aviansie when he destroyed Forinthry with the Stone of Jas. Bandos prolonged the carnage of the God Wars and added needlessly to the bloodshed. Saradomin dragged the aviansie into the fray in the first place. Armadyl himself failed as their guide and protector.

So yeah, Runescape Batman. Discuss.
The strength of the pack is the wolf and the strength of the wolf is the pack.

Honestly I wouldn't mind the peaceful hippie approach...at least it'd set him apart from Saradomin. When they first introduced Armadyl it sounded like he had actually changed since the God Wars and wouldn't be fighting this time around and would perhaps be trying to get other factions to co-exist. It would have been interesting if Armadyl was the goto faction for people who wanted all the Gods to co-exist or maybe liked Zamorak and Zaros and wanted them to live together.

...But no. He has decided to do the exact same thing as last time: Kill everyone who doesn't want to follow his view of peace. He's just a less interesting Saradomin. Even going this route they could have made it more interesting if the aviansie were dead. Here's the problems I have with that:

1) I don't like extinct races just coming back from the dead with no effort to revive them on the adventurer's part.

2) If I am to believe Abbinah is truly such a deadly place, then they shouldn't have been able to survive. If a dying race consisting of cowards and deserters were able to come back, rebuild civilization, survive, AND repopulate, then Abbinah clearly isn't that bad. At this point it is a fact that they have fared better in Abbinah than Gielinor by a significant margin and this completely undermines Armadyl's goal to move them to Gielinor.

3) The Aviansie dying out was supposed to be a horrible tragedy of the war...but really it was Armadyl being stupid enough to

A: Force them to keep fighting until they died out completely.

B: Put ALL OF THEM in a single continent--yes every man woman and child in one place where he is warring against a God.

C: Not bother checking on his home planet

Honestly, not only is Armadyl less interesting than Saradomin, but he also feels dumbed down too. Not only was he stupid enough to do all the above, but there's also the fact that, despite his claims that he has learned from his mistakes, he is repeating them.
Runescape doesn't need a hero...it needs a villain. An all encompassing force of evil that will remain ever-threatening and use chaos to make the peoples of Gielinor tolerate each other, grow strong together, and fight side by side against this evil. I am that villain.

Really I'm curious...what does Armadyl think his mistake was? Because when I was first reading about his character, I thought the answer was obvious: Armadyl's mistake was sending a peace loving race of creatures to war against creatures that craved battle and destruction. His mistake was forcing his worldview on people and not accepting the fact that Gielinor was home to a variety of diverse creatures with different values. His mistake was trying to move the Aviansie away from their broken--yet peaceful--planet to a complete warzone of terror. His mistake was preaching peace, but then going to war. I assumed that's what he was refering to.

But nope. He's doing it all again. He's repeating everything he did before that cost him his people. But what's changed? Well let's see...

-Armadyl is no longer working with allies. He chastised one and turned against him while killing the other.
-He is now fighting with less resources since he hasn't had any civilization in Gielinor for thousands of years.
-His main followers--the Aviansie--are now dying, so he has less soldiers.
-He no longer possesses the Staff of Armadyl.

It sounds kind of stupid when you read it aloud doesn't it? It sounds dangerously stupid actually. Seriously, I don't know what they were intending, but Armadyl really comes across as a drooling imbecile. And yet, despite being a constant failure, he somehow has an ego that rivals that of Zaros. His stupidity cost the lives of his people, led to a personal meltdown, and is now leading him to fighting the same war he did last time but with significantly less resources and power. It looks like a path to the Aviansies permanent end this time.

I don't know what the intentions were, but unless Jagex really did want to make him out to be a complete idiot, it just doesn't make sense. It would be far more logical--and interesting--to see him without an army, using more stealthy tactics and fighting as a lone wolf, with maybe a small squad of survivors.
Runescape doesn't need a hero...it needs a villain. An all encompassing force of evil that will remain ever-threatening and use chaos to make the peoples of Gielinor tolerate each other, grow strong together, and fight side by side against this evil. I am that villain.

"Kill everyone who doesn't want to follow his view of peace" Peace isn't a viewpoint it just is a word to describe being free from conflict and war. And war is just a means to a end it's not some hardcore training program designed to buff up the worlds population. If somebody is going to start a war for a poor reason then that person can die for all I care.
