I'll be the first to admit that democracy can be a double edged sword, especially in a community this small. And I trust Dethal, so if people are all for letting him make decisions on his own, that's great.
I just don't want people to feel like they have absolutely no say in what's going on, because that leads to resentment, then hatred, and then an explosion of drama.
One idea I will propose, if we go back to the original general system, is to change election procedure so that elections occur only when requested by a sizable number of people. There would be a minimum time limit between elections (6 months), but if nobody makes a request for elections and the generals are doing a good job, we could go a full three years or so without ever having an election. This would help limit generals while removing some of the election tedium.
Runescape doesn't need a hero...it needs a villain. An all encompassing force of evil that will remain ever-threatening and use chaos to make the peoples of Gielinor tolerate each other, grow strong together, and fight side by side against this evil. I am that villain.
