4) LOCATIONS
¤
This chapter is about the various locations in the multiverse. Note that kingdoms and empires are covered in section six point one.

Four.one) Planets, realms and dimensions

¤ Consisting of two layers,
Abbinah
is the homeworld of the aviantese. Its outer layer is shattered, effectively consisting of floating islands where the aviantese live, while the inner core is chaotic and dangerous but unfortunately the only place where water can be found. Long ago the various aviansie tribes were at war with each other, until Armadyl, the aviansie god of justice, united them. Long after the God Wars ended, a grieving Armadyl returned to his homeworld to find that not all of his race had been slain in the God Wars. In fact, he got troops from it to fight against Bandos in the Sixth Age.

¤ The
Abyss
is a "fabric" or "glue" that keeps dimensions together and prevents, well, the multiverse from collapsing. It resembles a realm built out of crimson vines and is inhabited by various monsters unique to the place. It survived the last Great Revision (when the elder gods wake, destroy the universe and start over) many millennia ago, as did the Dragonkin, who hid inside it to prevent annihilation. The abyss serves as the matrix for teleportation, and most teleports involve the subjects briefly passing through the abyss, although this can malfunction occasionally. Some beings are capable of interdimensional straddling (which was at one point researched by the Temple Knights), where a slow pass through the Abyss means that the straddler is inside the Abyss, at the destination of the teleport and at their point of departure simultaneously. Recently the ZMI have gained access to the Abyss as part of Operation: Transient and have a man stationed inside who keeps an interdimensional rift stable. Due to the teleportation spells' being based on Azacorax' demonic magic, anyone to travel through the Abyss is marked with the skull of Zamorak. The Abyss can be destroyed - the monstrous Spirit Beast clawed its way through the very matter of the Abyss, leaving literally nothing behind and thus creating The Void. At the end of the God Wars, when Zamorak led the Avernic rebellion on Infernus, the Chthonian demons that weren't killed were banished to the Abyss, where some remain today. A rift into the Abyss has been opened in Viggora's fortress and a number of Ne{ch}ryael and Abyssal demons have spawned from it.

¤ The
Afterlife
is a realm, of sorts, where the souls of the deceased go after passing through their respective homeworld's underworld. Each world has a unique afterlife (like each has a unique underworld).

¤
Britain
is the realm from which the Knights of the Round Table arrived to Gielinor in 5.132. It is said that they will return there some time, but they remain in Kandarin for the time being.

¤ The
Cosmic entity's plane
is a small dimension where Bub{rez}an(k}aldargarez'jk (or simply Bub) resides. It's a yellowish plane where the starflowers grow and many colourful comet-like things can be seen passing through.

¤ The
Dream World
is a realm where everything is made of dreams and thoughts, although some argue that it is simply a hallucination. The lunar mages of the Moonclan have the ability to travel to and fro the Dream World and have potions that allow shared dreaming as well. One's thoughts, fears, etc. become reality in the Dream World. For example, if one would defeat the manifestation of one's fears or handicaps in the Dream World, they would lose them in reality. It is said that Arrav was visited by Zemouregal in the Land of Dreams, which may be the same place.

* The
Enchanted Valley
is a magical realm that resembles a pristine forest with rivers and waterfalls. Its most notable inhabitants are the centaurs, whom Saradomin recruited to fight for him in the God Wars. Wood dryads and tree and rock spirits are also common sight.

¤ The
Fremennik spiritual realm
is the afterlife of Teragard and where the Fremennik go after death, provided that they died heroically. The deceased are greeted by the valkyrie Eir, who welcomes them and prepares them for The End of Things, which the Fremennik prophecy to be a large battle wherein the world ceases to exist. It is said that this battle should commence if Hati the Winter Wolf eats the moon and his brother Sköll the sun. The spiritual realm has a longhall where the dead Fremennik may feast and drink until this happens.

¤ Known as the "realm of eternal warfare",
Freneskae
is the last planet from before the last Great Revision of the elder gods and has been drained of all anima. Consequently it's a dead, barren place composed of bare, charred rock, lava rivers, volcanoes and geysers that spew toxic gas. In the crater of the large volcano on Freneskae lie its Elder Halls, where the cracked "eggs" of the elder gods are. Freneskae has been the home of Mah, a "malfunctioning" elder god, for thousands of years and it is where she created Seren and Zaros. From her dreams spawned various tribes such as the Mahjarrat, the Chelon-Mah and the Mahserrat, and from her nightmares the horrifying Muspah. The gods Icthlarin and Amascut visited Freneskae in the Second Age to recruit troops for their cause, and brought the Mahjarrat with them to Gielinor.

¤
Gielinor
, an old name that is barely ever used anymore as its inhabitants nicknamed it
RuneScape
in the First Age, is the youngest planet and contains a set of Elder Halls. It is the resting place of the elder gods (minus Mah) and very rich in anima. When Guthix found the realm shortly after the Naragun God Wars, he used various Elder Artefacts to shape it to his liking and then populated it with various races. Humans have since become the dominant race on Gielinor, although the vampyres, ogres, trolls, dwarves, gnomes and elves have particularly large territories as well. The elder gods Jas, Wen, Bik and Ful created Gielinor, but nobody alive is aware of this and the general human populace thinks that the three brothers Saradomin, Zamorak and Guthix together created the world (although an adventurer established that Zamorak had been a mortal Mahjarrat and thus may not have been able to do so in 5.169).

¤
Gorak Plane
is a small world inhabited by the vicious Gorak, strange creatures who draw the life essence from any living thing they find. It seems that in drawing the life force from the world that they live on they have trapped themselves on a small plane as it has been reduced to a small, warped area of a cloudy substance.

¤ The
Grim Underworld
is Gielinor's very own underworld, near to which the endless River Noumenon flows. A Guardian of Guthix named Harold Death (esquire), the first creature to ever die on Gielinor, is responsible for guiding the souls of the deceased through the gates of the Grim Underworld, where Icthlarin and previously his sister Amascut stand vigil. The Grim Underworld is unforgiving and terrorised by monsters said to be under Amascut's control, who is eager to devour the souls of the dead. Icthlarin guides the souls through to the Afterlife with his blazing green torch - if all goes well. In Fremennik folklore, the underworld is called Niflheim (Halls of the Dead) and said to resemble Daemonheim.

¤
Iaia
is the marshy and peaceful homeworld of the Ilujan{k}a and the gurhs. It is located somewhere in the multiverse where there are no stars. It has three moons. Zaros visited I{ai}a in the Second Age and promised to cure the Ilujan*a's infertility if they would join his cause, after which some left to Gielinor with him, becoming the Dragon Riders.

¤
Infernus
, generally called Pandemonium or simply the Infernal Dimensions, is a fiery, hellish realm where the various demons live hierarchically. All known demon species originate from Infernus. Its original leaders were the Infernal demons (although it may well be that they overthrew and earlier ruling species), who were overthrown by the Chthonian demons in a rebellion, after which an enormous demon called Hostilius the Autocrat ruled. Zaros visited the realm after leaving Freneskae and learnt much about the demons' culture on Infernus. Later, just before the God Wars on Gielinor would begin, Zamorak was brought to Infernus after defeating Zaros and, ascending to godhood, fulfilled his promise to the Avernic demons (who had been slaves under the Chthonians) by helping them in a revolution that would overthrow the Chthonians within nineteen years. Now, the Avernic still rule Infernus, although demons are more widespread now.

*
Kethsi
was a plane inhabited by a humanoid race that housed a prosperous civilisation. Until Gielinor's First or Second Age at least, when Elder Mage Etheron, a member of Kethsi's Mage Conclave, found the Stone of Jas on an expedition to other planes using the World Gate and brought it with him to Kethsi, where it was used for the good of the people. Unfortunately the Dragonkin arrived in a few months and tore the entire plane asunder, taking the Stone with them, although the Kethsians did manage to slay some using Dragonkinbane weaponry, but this discovery came too late.

¤ The
Killerwatt Plane
is a small dimension containing mostly dark storm clouds. It is where the dangerous killerwatt live, although they are also known to inhabit Gielinor's clouds.

¤ The
Land of Holly and Hawthorn
is where the Lands of Sunlight and Snow merge at the Season Tree. One half is covered in eternal winter, the other in eternal spring. It is where Lumi and Sunny ceremonially pass each other the Year.

¤ The
Land of Snow
is a realm of eternal snow and winter where ice sprites, snowmen and snow imps, but also some humans, live. There is also a yeti there, living in a large icy cave. It is ruled by Lumi, Queen of Snow, who is only able to perceive winter.

¤ The
Land of Sunlight
is presumably a realm of eternal spring and the opposite of the Land of Snow. It is ruled by Sunny, Queen of Sunrise.

¤
Naragun
was a planet where the Naragi, a people of farmers and craftsmen, lived. It featured many platforms held by tree trunks apparently protruding from its core. These were apparently quite strong, as the Naragi were able to construct large cities, such as the capital Askroth, on them. Some time before Gielinor's First Age, Saradomin, a god, arrived to Naragun and demanded worship, destroying Askroth upon being defied. Soon after, the bestial goddess Tuska arrived as well and began wreaking havoc on the realm. Feeling remorse, Saradomin attempted to save the Naragi, but Tuska's destruction proved too much as the Naragi and their settlements began to fall, and eventually he fled Naragun. At the end of these wars, the planet had been entirely destroyed, with only one surviving Naragi; Guthix, who, having become a god, left his home.

¤
New Domina
, renamed thus by Saradomin, is the homeworld of the Icyene. It is mostly water, with islands where the Icyene live as farmers, priests or warriors. The planet revolves extremely slowly around its axis as the days are very long. When night falls, the Icyene migrate to other islands. There is one known permanent settlement on New Domina, referred to as Saradomin's City. Apart from Icyene, the feline Skypouncers also live there and are said to bring luck when sighted.

¤
Orks Rift
is an interdimensional rift formerly located somewhere on Zanaris. It was used by the Fairy Mafia as a passage to a realm inhabited by ork* that isn't Yu'biusk. The Fairy Godfather was sucked into the rift after his defeat shortly before it exploded, destroying the only known passage to the orks' realm.

¤ The
Primordial Realm
, as the name suggests, is a dimension predating worlds. It is filled with sacred clay, the substance from which the elder gods created worlds. A group of mystics worshipping the revenants of the Wilderness have created a portal to it.

¤
Puro-Puro
is the dimension where implings and some imps live. It resembles a giant field with "walls" made of wheat. Its original inhabitants are unknown, but at some point the implings found it.

¤ The
Realm of the Fisher King
is a dimension whose health is influenced by that of its ruler, the Fisher King. By 5.169, he had got rather ill, which led to the crops' dying and the river's being polluted. After Sir Percival became king, the kingdom became prosperous again. It is inhabited by several human peasants who are subjects of the Fisher King who resides in a castle on a large hill.

¤ The
Runespan
is a pocket dimension created by the wizards of the Runecrafting Guild "in the shadow of the Wizards' Tower". It is where the guild is located and conducts its research. The runic energies are purer and more chaotic than on Gielinor itself and can therefore be siphoned by skilled runecrafters. When Wizard Finix put forward his worrisome theory in 5.169, Wizard Elriss opened more of the Runespan so that it could be researched more thoroughly.

¤
ScapeRune
is the direct opposite of Gielinor. While the geography is seemingly similar, all processes are reversed. For example, fish live in a cooked state and can be uncooked on fires. Bob the Cat's opposite is Evil Bob, a nasty cat. It can be accessed by the fairy ring network.

¤ The
Shadow Realm
isn't as much a dimension as a "layer" over any other realm. The Shadow Realm is invisible unless you are a shadow yourself or are wearing the Ring of Visibility, made by Sliske, who is known for his mastery of the realm. The reverse is false, however, and beings in the Shadow Realm may perceive everything in the normal realm. Damis and Khazard are known to have some power in the Shadow Realm.

¤ The
Spider Realm
is the homeworld of the spiders. The only structures there are large webs or constructions made out of the web silk. It is ruled by the Spider Queen and has a strictly hierarchical society.

¤ The
Spirit Plane
is a magical realm inhabited by various spirit creatures. Druids are known to be able to summon these creatures with magically prepared pouches, charms and spirit shards, although only manifestations of the spirit creatures can come to Gielinor. The Spirit Plane resembles a lush forest. According to the elf Lord Amlodd, who hid here during the Elven Civil War, the animals who live there are the pure forms of those on Gielinor. Gorajo, sinkholes, gulegas, nustukh, honovi and triple-bellied wolfloks live here.

* The
Spirit Realm
is a realm parallel to Gielinor (although restricted to the Wilderness) where every situation is the opposite of that on Gielinor. Whereas ScapeRune is an independent opposite of Gielinor, the Spirit Realm is adjusted based on the state of something on Gielinor. For example, a tree on Gielinor would be a stump in the Spirit Realm; if chopped down, it would appear as a tree in the Spirit Realm. The Spirit Beast is known to inhabit the Spirit Realm, devouring the souls of spirits to strengthen itself and preventing them from passing on to the Afterlife. However, it was defeated in the Spirit Realm in 5.169, after which it manifested itself corporeally on Gielinor, although the spirits it had been sapping life from were released.

¤
Tarddiad
is a realm with many forests and crystalline structures where the elves originate from. It was visited by Seren before Gielinor's First Age, and she decided to stay with the elves and taught them crystal singing. Later, Guthix came to Tarddiad, befriended Seren and eventually persuaded her and the elves to journey with him to Gielinor, where the elves kept a permanent passage to their homeworld in the form of the World Gate.

¤
Teragard
is a cold planet and the original homeworld of the human race. It is ruled by an assembly of seven families with a magister at the head of each. Despite the climate, the humans are content to stay on Teragard, being proud and isolationist. The most interesting feature may well be The Schism, a portal resembling a black hole crackling with red lightning from which the planet derives its energy.

¤
Vamp{yr}ium
, named so by Zaros, is the homeworld of the vamp{y}res, who live in the many castles and fortresses scattered throughout the realm, preying on one another until Zaros introduced structure and culture. It is said to have a blood-red sky. After Zaros' contributions to the vampyres' society, a civil war ensued, from which a ruling aristocracy soon emerged. The vampyres from Vamp{yr}ium, such as the Drakan family, are vampyres by race - many vampyres living on Gielinor are actually converted humans or, as some suspect, even Icyene.

¤
The Void
is a dimension of emptiness created by the Spirit Beast's clawing through the Abyss in order to get from the Spirit Realm to Gielinor. Where the Abyss, which holds the universe together, was destroyed, literally nothing was left behind: The Void. The void pests, which actually have their own jungly and swampy homeworld, are known to use The Void as a method of travelling to other realms; hence their name.
