In 1777, settlers from Misthalin, not believing the tales of the war and the evil of Morytania, left the kingdom to settle in northern Morytania, where they would remain undiscovered by Lord Drakan for a while. In 1937, King Claudius Remanis of Varrock established a new town on the Lum: Lumbridge, ruled by his vassal Duke Polonius. In 2000, a Guthixian wizard discovered the rune essence mine in the north, allowing man to craft runes once more. With magic at their disposal, the humans became the dominant race on Gielinor as the Fifth Age began, and Misthalin the greatest human kingdom, as the lands between Ice Mountain and the Galarpos were still inhabited mainly by human tribes, albeit non-nomadic ones. In 17 of the Fifth Age, King Botolph Remanis commissioned the construction of a sewage system for the Varrock Palace but it grew out of proportion and soon spanned the entire city, being finished only three years later. Shortly prior, the powerful demon Delrith threatened to destroy the city. However, one of the miners working in the sewers, Wally Prysin, the descendant of one of the Elders of Avarrocka, used a special chant and the sword Silverlight to defeat the demon and send him back to Infernus. In 70, after the sacking of the Wizards' Tower, the Zamorakian Dagon'hai were expelled from the city in a violent chase as they performed rituals forbidden by the Church of Saradomin. In 154, the Mahjarrat Lucien attacked Varrock with an army of undead in attempt to capture the Shield of Arrav like his cousin Zemouregal had attempted, but failed as the Varrock Guard had magic at their disposal. In 164 and 165, a vampyre from Morytania would attack and abduct Varrock and the settlements east of it, to which an embassy was sent to Morytania by King Roald Remanis III to discuss the matter with Lord Drakan. In 169, the demon Agrith Naar, trapped in the human form of Denath by the Saradominist demonologist Ellemar and his companions, successfully summoned Delrith to destroy Varrock once more, but he was stopped by an adventurer wielding Silverlight and slain. That same year, Brugsen Bursen founded the Grand Exchange, increasing trade and commerce, a beacon network was built and tested along the border of the Wilderness and Silvarea to be used in case of attacks, and Zemouregal invaded the city once more, this time with his second-in-commands Sharat*teerk and Arrav, but was stopped when Dimintheis Fitzharmon obliterated the undead army using the Shield of Arrav. King Roald also launched a Mercenary Protocol to help liberate Morytania from the vampyres, but could not send his armies there due to the Edicts of Guthix. The Dagon'hai attempted to avenge themselves by putting the king under their mind control, but their plan was thwarted by the Varrock Palace Secret Guard. Varrock is a huge, bustling city built mainly out of grey stone. It has a huge palace north of the famous square and marketplace, where the king and his court reside. It's complete with dungeons, a great hall and a palace library and archive, as well as several portrait galleries. There are several inns in the city, such as the Blue Moon, the Jolly Boar and the Flying Donkey. Bizarre Boron Fusswell, scryer extraordinaire. OSRS: POH ideas & RS3 minigames & achievement ideas !

The famous Varrock Museum is in the north-east of the city, with a grand zoology department. Like any great city, it has slums and the poor sector of Varrock can be found in the south-western part of the city. It is also where the notorious Phoenix Gang operate, and its less influential rival the Black Arm Gang. Varrock is protected day and night by the City Guard while the VPS(*) protect the palace.

Witchaven
, named so due to the sea siren Remora's unintentionally luring fishermen to their death by her singing, is a small village east of Ardougne. It used to be a thriving fishing community until the construction of the Fishing Platform was commissioned, which caused the town's income to plummet. In the late Fifth Age, their mayor, (E)ustace Hobb, was possessed by sea slugs and began to work toward the liberation of the Mother Mallum. The Fishing Platform was soon taken over by slugs, as well as giant lobsters under Mallum's control. Slowly but surely, more and more villagers became possessed and eventually the Temple Knights sent one of their initiates to investigate. They did so but were tricked by the mayor into helping him release Mother Mallum. The initiate killed the Slug Prince but was defenceless against Mallum, who would have possessed him if not for Savant's quick intervention. Afterwards, Mallum took up residence in the Slug Citadel off Witchaven's coast, taking many villagers, the mayor and the possessed priest Maledict with her. The Temple Knights sent a party to destroy her before she could possess the world leaders again like he had done before and, where entire armies had failed, these four people miraculously succeeded in putting her reign to an end, liberating the villagers of Witchaven.

Yanille
is a walled town in the south of Kandarin, bordering the Feldip Hills. It is at war with the ogres of Gu'tanoth, although their watchtower and the army led by Colonel Radick puts them in an advantageous position against the powerful but stupid ogres. It is home to the Wizards' Guild, which had originally been founded in the First Age.
