I fully agree with the above: destroying the Stone of Jas was no small feat. It does however give another reason why we should not have even bothered getting the stone "back" from the Dragonkin when we are told (lied to) that they have "stolen" it: if they truly had the stone then rather than destroying it (near impossible) they would have hid it. That hypothetical situation would have not upset the Elder Gods as much as destroying their artifact.

This still makes me wonder why my character took Sliske's bait and tried to get the stone "back" at the start of Kindred Spirits.
It is something easily solved though by adding a chat option to not help Relomia, only to still be kidnapped. At least that is what I want to believe is what really happened.

Well you make some assumptions here about what the dragonkin would do. For a start you assume all the dragonkin would function like the Dactyl (Kerapac specifically) would do, which is not what the Necrosyrtes would do AT ALL.

The Necrosyrtes having the stone would likely be bad . Look what they did when they took divine energy to empower themselves in Hero's Welcome.

You also assume a lot about Elder God motivations or opinions but that's for another day. ;)

You weren't just seeking Sliske remember. You were also seeking all the people that had gone missing and were being held hostage. There has to be an assumption that the player cares about other people's plight, otherwise it becomes impossible to assume motivation for anything. You are a hero, after all, so we assume you're pretty up for rescuing those genuinely in need.

I do acknowledge that it's a bit of a railroad, but I think you can easily justify it from the player's point of view.

Bar Crawl Mini-quest

Step 1: Go to nearest pub
Step 2: Bribe bar pub owner to check off all the "drinks"
Step 3: down a number of beers and ales until I'm drunk enough
Step 4: Go back to Barbarian

If each bar really does have it's own seal/mark that can't be forged:
Step 1: Still visit each pub
Step 2: Pay for drink, but only ask for wine, beer, or grog ... not the strong stuff
Step 3: Return to Barbarian

either way, you're still sloshed enough to pass, but with the card checked off, he'll think you have a higher constitution that a barbarian.

... for crying out loud ... you'd think an Overload has a lot more kick to it than the "Heartstopper" drink. And some players down Overloads like a fish in water.

Pretty much every "are you a BAAAD enough dude" test in Underground Pass could have been conquered with some lateral thinking and people skills (can I borrow those emblems, paladins? It's to open the door. Then we can go through together).

Also, why does the ZMI mage need to triangulate you teleporting to the Rune Essence? Couldn't he just give you a voice recording spell and steal the actual teleport?

Isn't Mod Raven getting off topic on the thread?
Probably but it's always nice to have some of the less clear things cleared up. Though I consider destroying the near invincible Stone of Jas child's play compared to surviving the 7k+ gravities of acceleration of a cannon-barrel boat (bullet from a gun lol) dimension/time hopping and the general lunacy of our life :P
The purpose of adventure is to shine light into dark places,
Poke monsters with a sharp stick, Then steal anything that isn't nailed down!

You can always assume your own character's motivation in your headcanon anyways. I like to imagine my World Guardian forgets he's supposed to be the hero.

"Sliske: What about the hostages?"
"Eridyn: *thinking* Damn it, I forgot about those. People expect me to save them."

Anyway, on the topic of this thread. My solution for the hostage situation in Kindred Spirits:

Simply kill all the hostages yourself. No more hostages needing to be saved, job done and you can go home without a piece of your soul being stolen.

I mean it IS Meg, Linza, and a Colonel we don't really know (we probably know and like her more than we do Linza anyways.)

But think of the tradeoff? 1 less weekly XP lamp and some GP just to perma-kill Meg?

Her function in ports would probably be replaced with a different npc. Personally I don't mind Meg, but I do like my solution.

I do agree. Your solution is better.
But you know times in movies or stories where the villain goes "join me and we could rule together!" and while most heroes would say No ... but every once in a while ... the hero does take a few seconds to think about it (I mean ... the villain may have a hot daughter/son, you would be the chief to their armies, you might get to be a warlord in your own right ... there would be some perks ... )

I could see a 2-3 second hesitation in some people before they went all stabby-stabby on Meg.
