Someone explain this to me. Why would you ship your character with something that isn't even human/doesn't look human?

This isn't me bashing ships I don't like, I really am curious, how can you find something that doesn't even look human (like...a dragon rider for example) attractive?
Well, many races in RuneScape still resemble a humanoid shape, even if not human. Ilujanka are among those races, Mahjarrat, Naragi, Elves, many of the Demons, the Icyene, etc.

Besides, who's to say physical attraction is all there is to a relationship?
A

Only then can they

themselves and forge their own

Well for one, have you seen my character? There's the looks reason right there.

Plus humans are pretty boring, dragons and their like are way more interesting.
I personally don't care much for Ariane as she's just another mage girl with long red hair, any female human could copy her look.
Of course people may not copy her personality but this is strictly about looks.

Human/nonhuman romances offer an interesting relationship dynamic in many ways. The exotic/alien beauty factor is only a small part; there's also the way the characters interact, how their physical, cultural, and personality differences play off one another, how they see past initial prejudices and come to understand each other and their respective races better, and how others of their kind view their relationship. I find it fascinating to explore human appearances and behavior from an alien perspective, as well as having a human character be enthralled by alien culture and biology.

I'm particularly fond of the Beast and Beauty trope, with a beautiful human learning to love a fearsome, beastly- or monstrous-looking nonhuman man. (In my case I even have a bit of a reverse BatB scenario, with my character first seeing him in the guise of a young, handsome human that she finds conventionally attractive, but appreciating and even preferring his much more alien and intimidating true form as she comes to truly love him.)

I'm aware that elf/human ships are somewhat of a cliche, but as I said before, The Light Within gives scope to a romantic story with Eluned.

some people are into personalities, not bodies

I thought the whole point of a ship was about personalities though

Not to say looks don't matter, it could be, and sometimes is the first thing you notice about a character.

Fun fact: I first noticed Ariane in 2010, when she was on the Runescape webpage, I thought she was attractive. If it wasn't her her pretty looks, I would've never shipped my character with her.

I get human/non human ships as long as the latter is human-looking. Icyene are fine, they like humans with pretty white wings, elves are fine too.

But Ilujanka ? Those things are so alien-looking, so reptilian...it's hard to wrap your head around the notion that they're...shippable.

Of course physical attraction isn't everything, but they do play a part.

Oh...your World Guardian isn't even human. I didn't know that. I can get a reptilian WG/Ilujanka ship.

When I asked my question, I'd assumed it was a human WG/Ilujanka ship.

Hang on, did you just imply Ariane's "generic?" How dare you talk **** about my waifu! :P

Cool!

I still like human/elf ships, however cliche they may be.

Would you ever post your story here?

Haha, was just trying to mention my reasoning behind prefering the reptilian races and all that.
I just like how Dragons and stuff can all look so vastly different yet still be classed as a 'Dragon.'
Different scale patterns, horn structures, entirely different body shapes yet still a dragon, it's why I like them.

Whereas with Humans it's almost always this 'one' look or they're not a human anymore, add wings, Icyene. Short stature, Dwarf. Pointed ears, Elf. Etc.

Have nothing against Ariane herself, it's just that Humans always have to look as they do otherwise they aren't human anymore.
