Saradomin seems to be more interested in gathering Elder Artefacts than in territory, and he already has most of the world under his influence. However, he is almost certainly going to want his Icyene back to bolster his army, so perhaps he will be targeting Morytania for that reason.

Zaros on the other hand needs some land. The desert is slightly contested right now and thats where most of his followers are based. Taking Morytania has the bonus of not getting on Saradomins nerves, whilst also taking out Drakan as a bit of revenge.

Zaros's revenge headhunt anyone?

Hmm, a Zarosian incursion into Morytania? He could take advantage of the upcoming power struggle in Darkmeyer to overthrow the traitor Drakan and bring the Vampyres back into the fold. Zaros might even want to take advantage of Drakan's 'rock' programme to empower himself. A bizarre scenario might occur in which the Myreque are forced to ally with Vanescula and the 'loyalist' Vyres who promise to free the humans if they cooperate in driving out the Zarosian Vampyre presence from Morytania.

Alternatively, he might want to wipe out the Vampyre threat altogether, which in turn might attract the hearts and minds of much of the Meiyerditch masses, triggering a conflict between those humans who remember Saradomin/Efaritay's rule and those who have been swept up in the Zarosian resurgence.

This is, of course, all speculation, and far-fetched at that.

Vanescula seems like the type who would want to pull a Zamorak on Zaros, so she could be willing to side with him to remove Drakan and position herself for godhood. A vampyric civil war is an interesting concept, it seems that most of the new, weaker vampyres want Drakan out and the older, more powerful ones want to keep him in. Zaros could be a catalyst to make this happen.

Didn't we once speculate that Drakan was a sleeper agent for Zaros? Zaros and Drakan vs Morytania could be fun to watch.

I'm sure somebody has, but it wouldn't really enhance the story if the evil, mysterious Drakan turns out to be someone else's lackey.

On that note, a major Zarosian incursion might devalue the storyline too. The series is fundamentally about the struggle between the Myreque (who we often sideline in the grand scheme of events) and the Drakans. If Drakan gets bumped off and the Myreque become a minor nuisance in a wider geopolitical struggle, the heart of the story will have been ripped out.

Edit: A minor incursion, however, might add a little seasoning to the pot.

I think Zaros making a move would be counter to the whole shadow thing they have going on. Drakan's reaction just finding out both gods are back is interesting enough and I could see Misthalin invading potentially which could have Saradominists influence but that's pretty counter to the neutrality of Varrock.

Maybe not so much of an invasion as an infiltration, fits their shadowy nature. The Barrows Brothers are well positioned to strike in Morytania and its probably the most easily taken nation once inside, yet easily defendable due to the Silvarea pass being the only way to move an army in. But of course, none of this until the Myreque get their well deserved victory.

On the other hand, if Sliske is aspiring for some godhood himself, Morytania is his doorstep and he no doubt has had plenty of time to observe Drakan and make plans.

That makes a lot of sense. If I were writing the Myreque storyline, I'd take advantage of the upcoming God Wars by giving the Myreque (and, perhaps, Efaritay,) the final victory over the Vampyres in Morytania, with the restored kingdom of Hallowland facing a new threat on the horizon. It would end the series in a satisfying way while providing a solid context for Morytania to remain the ghastly place that it is, as so much of their energy and resources will be tied up in preparing for war.

Zamorak proved that mortals can be a match for Gods, albeit with an Elder Artifact or two as supplement. An army of Vyres could probably be a match for Saradomin and his human army, though they would be hard pressed to defend against the Icyene too.

However from what we've seen Saradomin doesn't like to be in the fighting, hes a manipulator, as are Lowernial and Vanescula, so it then becomes a war between the vampyre (and possibly werewolf/abyssal demon) footsoldiers and the humans alongside the Icyene, which then becomes much more fairly matched.

The key question is why would Saradomin want to smite Drakan? No Elder Artifacts, no useful land, Saradomin doesn't care about the plight of the Meiyerditch citizens. Unless he wants Morytania for Icyenic purposes.

To be fair, we don't know what Saradomin's true intentions are just yet. He might simply be power-hungry like Zaros, but he might also be interested in establishing a peaceful world order.

Perhaps we should do a poll of Myreque fans' allegiance once the god emissaries have arrived?
