@Centaur: Never judge a quest based on graphics, that's all I have to say.

I'd say I enjoyed Call of the Ancestors, but there were logic errors. Why were the goebie trials so randomly added to the quest without introduction? What was the purpose of Xina**to with regards to the plot? Why can we not tell Acca Kanatah about everything that happened? We get the option to say one thing, then we don't even say ot but omly get a brief response, and quest complete. In terms of gameplay, though, it was fun.
Bizarre Boron Fusswell, scryer extraordinaire. OSRS: POH ideas & RS3 minigames & achievement ideas !

Perhaps you're half right; perhaps we can't win. But we can fight.

I saw a lovely reddit post about the best quest series in game so thought I'd post it here.

"I'm an OldSchool player whos played a bit of Darkscape, and recently did the whole Dorgeshuun/Zanik questline up to the Chosen Commander. And my god, they are great quests. Spoilers ahead

They deal with issues such as racism/prejudice, friendship, whether it is ever morally right to take a life, loyalty and forgiveness, and standing up for your beliefs.

It starts with you investigating a strange noise in a basement, and ends with you saving an entire race from a vengeful God. You see Zanik as a person change and mature, die and come back to life and go from a normal goblin to a leader of the Dorgeshun. And you are by her side, her friend, through every step of her journey. She can always count on you, and you can always count on her, to do the right thing.

When Zanik, in anger and possessed by the wrath of Bandos, kills a H.A.M member who had been poisoning child goblins, we learn that no-one should ever take the law into their own hands, no matter what the guilty has done.

When the city of Dorgesh-kaan is threatened by Bandos, Zanik gives a fantastic speech, saying that they will not go quietly to their deaths, they will not run and hide as their race had been for centuries, they will stand and fight. Even if they have no doubt that they will lose, they will stand and fight for their families, their friends and their freedom.

Through thick and thin you are there for Zanik, as she is for you.You defy Gods, save a species from extinction, and make new friends. These quests are a perfect example of what makes Runescape special to me. They tell a real, meaningful story, and do it superbly.

Thank you for reading."

Always great to see people enjoying quests, especially John A ones.

I think you meant to tag me. Also I explained it poorly. I wasn't judging it on graphics so much as how the graphics added to the immerse of the quest ect. Anyway I decided. Call of the Ancestors is currently the second last quest of the year with Lord of Vampyrium occupying the bottom slot.

Having said that, here's my review for The Branches of Darkmeyer.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So this will be my review for the Branches of Darkmeyer.

Now I’m sure most of you will know that I have remained unengaged by the Myreque series. The series seems to have a sort of mainstream love for it that I just cant seem to grasp. Everyone is “The Myreque series is great” so I played the first quest , it was fine nothing bad but not great. I seem to have this attitude to the whole series - people seem to rave about the Myreque series so I play the quests and simply cannot find what people claim is so fantastic about this series.

However I’m fair. Whilst I’m never thrilled about a new Myreque quest, its a new quest. A new opportunity to with me over. So that is my feelings heading into Branches of Darkmeyer. I wasn’t mega hyped but this is the quest people see to give the most love. People raved about Ana and were near rioting when she left so logically that would imply Branches should be good. I began the quest not hyped but slightly optimistic.

A quick note about the requirements. I have absolutely no idea why Legends Quest has a requirement. Also the jump between the series feels motivated by a desire to have a hard boss fight and make blisterwood weapons useful rather than any narrative reasoning. I dislike these unnecessary additions. Firstly the large gap between Legacy and Branches could mean players lose details about the series between the instalments so is a negative for questing. Also high levels does not equal great. Death of Chivalry is a fantastic quest and novice tier. The Chosen Commander is a fantastic quest and experienced tier. Raising the levels for a hard boss fight does not make a great quest. The content makes quests great and needlessly raising requirements does nothing to add to this.

The quest begins at Velief who explains the Myreque is being harassed more than ever. It*s not really explained why except the quest needs it. So Velief sends us to fight who is believed to be Vanstrom in a nearby cave. There’s no plan and no real reason why we agree to fight alone against what we are told to be one of the Myreques biggest threats which the rest of the cell just remain in the base. You can talk to the other Myreque members who don't say much.

Into the cave and it looks fairly nice. I don't want to say it looks really good but its serviceable with the Drakan symbol the standout piece. You get the token and letter. Thats pretty much all for the cave section. Velief tells us how this doesn’t sound like Vanstrom and sends us to visit Safaleen. At this point, its pretty obvious its Vanescula.

Safalaan takes the letter and adds his base as a teleport option on the token. Two things worth noting. The token acts as a teleport to all the important locations of the Myreque series and given the sheer impracticality of most of those locations, it makes the quest a lot easier. The other thing to note is that Safaleen comes across very unlikable. He was similar in Legacy of Seergaze. It makes Safalaan a hard character to engage with - we never really have a reason to care about him and he acts rudely but not in a likeable way. Its hard to root for him as a result. He sends you to trap whoever wants to meet him.

The trap is a little odd. Firstly why isn't Safalaan doing this, other than the we are the main character reasoning? Surely that makes more sense with us the backup. Secondly the letter discusses Section 4. Sections to my knowledge hadn’t been mentioned before or since so seems an odd addition. Anyway you weave your way through the cluttered city to the meeting area.

You engage with Nesssie in a rather unneeded part of the quest where Vanescula makes up an odd irrelevent section and the magic really isn't explained. This section could all be cut and spend more time on useful parts. On the plot side, Vanescula tells of her plans to overthrow Drakan and help the Myreque. Lots of contenty references which is nice.

We enter Darkmeyer with Vanescula and do a generic behind enemy lines evasion. Use smoke bombs, hid in buildings, get a disguise. How exactly the disguise works is a mystery, seemingly just to be dark robes but oh well. Vanescula then casts a spell so the Vyrewatch cant detect you.

Next you do a series of status gaining exercises. Honestly the early Darkmeyer section fits into the fairly typical quest exercise and the only real difference from later quests is the length and number of options. Basically pick the meanest options to impress vampires. This could have been used as commentary of the player but really isn’t. A missed opportunity. We chose a name with little to no knowledge of vampire society. Given the quests location, it is surprising how little we learn about vampires. The Myreque series has always been lore lite and the trend continues here.

Also we swear allegiance to Vanescula for some reason? I know she says it will be noticed if you don't but it doesn’t much at all. You could argue it sets up Ranis’s demands later and suspicion but that could be done easily enough without this. There is a nice nod in the jail where it is Maria, the wife from the blood collector from In Aid of the Myreque. A flaw of this is having a break out option that we can** use during or post quest.

Onto the puzzle. It’s a rotate to put in a specific order puzzle. This puzzle has several flaws and limitations. The actual balls the puzzle uses are poorly coloured making the puzzle harder as you aren’t 100% sure what colours they are. This could be done better. Also the puzzle is limited how it turns - you cant rotate back and have to click the bottom left ball to rotate the four you chose to rotate. Additionally the third puzzle is significantly harder than the other three puzzles you have to complete. It is also incredibly tedious to try to swap two balls around when the rest of the puzzle is nearly complete. This would have been a great time to introduce a money sink puzzle solving mechanic to swap a few balls around or something. The puzzle should’ve been handled better.
