I have to go with either The World Wakes or While Guthix Sleeps; both are epic in proportions (although the former is much shorter), and are so phenomenally important to the storyline of Runescape. They also have Mahjarrat (the Mahjarrat quests being my favourite), making them great hits for me. Ritual of the Mahjarrat comes a close second, and Temple at Senntisten probably third.

I know what you mean! :P I'm in a sadistic mood though (mosquitoes beware!), so I'm going to have to have you pick a single quest as your ultimate favourite. ;)

Perhaps you're half right; perhaps we can't win. But we can fight.

My favorite is without a doubt Rotm.

Action packed, epic music, awesome lore...it had it all. Watching the other NPC's fight was also another cool thing about that quest, especially watching the barrows brothers fight against the Zombies, or Sir Tiffy against Enakhra. And of course, seeing Lucien's big hits on Ali :O

Ah yeah, that's right, the Birthright of the Dwarves quest is a Mod John A finale. I knew it was by Mod John A, and knew it was a finale, but it means something different when you put them two together. :P You can only fully appreciate a story when you experience it through the eyes of one of its characters.

Tiffy only fought Khazard, and, if you had resurrected him, Hazeel. Fun fact: he is immortal. If Idria and Khazard are lured away from Akrisae when fighting the ice demon (post-EoC) and Idria dies, she just disappeares permanently until the next cutscene. If Tiffy dies, he simply says something like "Phew, that was close!", restores full health and keeps on fighting. Must be a Temple Knight thing. :P

Definitely correct though! We also knew TWW was going to be good; the Myreque quest developer making a grandmaster quest - now where have we seen that before? :P

My favorite was One Piercing Note.

It's the best stand-alone quest in my opinion, and the only one with any actual emotional complexity. Quests like WGS, ROTM, TWW etc.. cover heavy and major plotlines, so I feel most people are naturally biased towards them. They were enjoyable quests, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't mean that those quests are the best just for that reason.

Underground pass. Far more of an old school dungeon adventure than most quests, had lots of plots and story and characters to the side, and some rather interesting puzzles as well.

On another note, WGS, while fantastic, is very overrated in terms of 'best thing ever'. I'm also disappoint that you didn't put recipe for disaster on that list.

And TWW did make me cry. I've only ever done that twice in games.

Completely agree; for standalone quests, OPN easily comes out on top.

However I loved the way WGS linked everything together.

(can I vote for both???)

One Piercing Note hands down for me, which is a bit odd cos I'm absolutely obsessive about lore. However, this quest really succeeds in putting you in the middle of things. You're not some adventurer improbably tasked with saving the world, but an impartial investigator brought in because you're an outsider. The characters, even (ESPECIALLY) the villain are sympathetic and tragic, and the end standoff feels so urgent and intense. The clue finding and final denoument is terribly clever, and the cut scenes really make the quest feel cinematic. Add to this the fact that the Abbey is STILL one of the most beautiful areas in game and the music and voice acting are yet unmatched (I think they had something to prove, it being the first one).

For me a great quest makes you feel like you're not just going through the motions, but that the stakes are high, the clock is ticking, and it's on you to come up with a solution right now . Like in Shadow of the Storm, when Uzer is being assaulted by twisters, or the EPIC showdown in ROTM.
