we can't bring any armour or weapons into to protect ourselves, we have no backup, no contact with gods through prayer, seemingly no way out, and no idea of what's in there to begin with...
"and doesn't that just scare you to death?" (doctor who)
That's exactly the sort of thing my character would do

Also just did this quest for the first time. I let that evil thing RIP. Oh boy, THAT won't happen next time!
I never actually made it to the crypt. Once the main hall turned into a purple gas chamber, I was focused on finishing the quest asap. Doubled down on that mentality once the beachball of doom began chasing me.
I like the premise of this quest, especially that you can choose if the demon gets a meal or not. Anyone remember the dialogue option in
One Piercing Note
where killing everyone in the monastery and letting Saradomin sort it out is 'your' solution to the murders? I actually chose it and screen captured it for posterity.
Oh and concerning some of the questions asked about the loose ends of this quest - I think the house has been resettled recently. I think Louis wasn't down there alone initially, but he "took care" of his fellow crazies over the centuries. The reason why the house comes equipped to support a garrison is pretty obvious....Morytania is just across the river. There is more to Maria than we're being told.
I'm rather intrigued by the asylum. Those powerful magic barriers working all these years later make me wish to get Ariane down there to learn how they work. Something that old still running makes me wonder what else you could do with that kind of magic.....? Solo Vorago? No problem! Just watch the damage bounce off your shimmering wall.
Mod Jack, can I have this please?
