Many also seem to have the misconception about Sliske. For those who have completed all the Zaros digsite mysteries should know Trindine laughed at Sliske calling himself the "Master of Shadow" for she was actually the one who has gone deeper into the Shadow Realm:

"...and I find myself with an opportunity to delve deeper into the Shadow Realm than any before me. Perhaps even deeper than Sliske himself, the self-proclaimed 'Master of Shadow'. I shall note down my methods and findings here, should I not survive long enough to pass on this information."

Note that if Trindine knew how to get to the deeper, if not the deepest part, of the Shadow Realm in the 2nd Age (obviously before the end of the Zarosian Desert War), it is extremely possible Guthix and other ancient beings knew the secrets too.

^That's a very interesting thought, though I don't recall offhand anything that would lead me to believe Guthix explored the Shadow Realm to this detail. It's possible he could have been told the secrets by someone, but who? Certainly not any Zarosian Mahjarrat...

I'm curious what role Trindine will play in the future, and how many secrets she knows and is willing to share with us...

No idea at this point if Guthix knew the secrets of the Kingdom of Shadows and the Illuminati at this point but it is quite likely no other Mahjarrat including Sliske and Azzanadra knew more than Trindine and the few who escaped to the Shadow using the Vaults under Kharid-et because Azzandra thought they died in the War.

So for all those wondering if Xau is connected to Shadow anima and the Codex, I'm going to say probably. The best evidence for it is a line from Death at Sea which is about Xau. The line goes "Who carves his hate upon the Monolith?!" The monolith could mean something else entirely but its also the nickname we've given the Codex. The "hate" could be shadow anima which corrupted Raksha when he found it. My biggest concern is what is Guild master tony going to be warped into? I have seen the dark universe yawning, where the black planets roll without aim;
Where they roll in their horror unheeded, without knowledge or lustre or name.

Nothing probably. Tony probably entered the Kingdom of Shadow like Trindine and the group of Mahjarrat who have gone MIA and presumed death in the 2nd Age War but indeed slipped into the Kingdom of Shadow and escaped the War.

Tony is said to be trying hard to contact the Archaeology base camp. This is a very strong indication his mind is not controlled by anything and likely not corrupted.

That's no fun. Morph him into an umbral jackrabbit with a monocle and arch hat who is completely insane and only talks to you in telepathic jibberish.

They captured Tony most likely for a purpose. They need his knowledge of the ancients, perhaps to bring Xau-Tak back to that was failed in rituals performed by Bilrach, and with Moia in 'Til Death Do Them Apart.

The Shadow needs a smart and knowledgeable Professor Tony, not a blob. :)

Well folks, Azzanadra's Quest featured a lot of big moments and lore reveals, but there was also a section that proves very promising for this theory.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR AZZANADRA'S QUEST! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I'm talking, of course, about the memory of Guthix from the restricted engram. In this memory, Guthix states that he orchestrated his death by Sliske's hand to empower us, the World Guardian. Which we already knew from Desperate Times and Desperate Measures. However, there's a section that is extremely relevant to the theory laid out in the OP:

Original message details are unavailable.
The Mahjarrat Sliske would be the perfect candidate for this. For all his faults there are few who can match his skill with shadow magic. If I could set him after this mortal soul, if I could focus him at them. He would work his magic upon them and this would act as the catalyst needed for the enchantment to grow. But I would need to change Sliske as well. He would need to be primed by my own magic, delivered directly and in the purest form. The only option there is the staff of Armadyl and it would mean my end. So be it.

I was unable to protect Naragun with my life, so let me safeguard Gielinor with my death. I shall lure Sliske here with the promise of power and the frustrations of mystery. When he comes before me I shall let him know he is important, that only he can be the one to kill me. His curiosity will be inflamed and he will not be able to ignore that nagging voice in his head craving to learn more. It will consume him. Whatever name I give him, whoever I point him at, he will be drawn to them like a moth to a flame. He will not be able to be anything other than the spark needed to empower my chosen.

I have added emphasis around some statements in the above quote. This statement is fascinating for many reasons.

It seems Guthix used the Staff of Armadyl to transfer some of his own magic into Sliske. My immediate thought is: Could this have affected his personality? His actions, ever since the death of Guthix-- culminating in his fusion to our soul. How much of this could have been guided by Guthix? Perhaps Guthix was a voice in Sliske's head just like how Sliske is now a voice in our head? Could Sliske have entered our soul on direction from Guthix-- the same way (a fragment of) Guthix entered Sliske upon his death?

There is a clear motive for Guthix to want Sliske to perform such an action. Take a look at a different passage in Guthix's memory:

Original message details are unavailable.
Once part of them, their soul would adapt and change, absorbing anima and shadow anima alike. Growing, slowly, in power and preparing itself for the task ahead. Indeed they would find themselves connected to power they would never expect. They would be in constant connection with the Codex, absorbing the shadow anima in a steady flow even as they absorb the flow of anima around them. Its powers could enhance them, strengthen them and prepare them for the trials ahead. However, such an enchantment would need to be primed, unlocked, and that would require an outside force.

again, emphasis mine. It seems our World Guardian powers must be primed, and Sliske is the one to do this. Sliske entering our soul makes perfect sense now-- it may have been needed for us to fully realize our powers as World Guardian! I end by referring to the bolded passage from the quote on the last post. Guthix used his magic to essentially make Sliske obsessed with us. And thus, him entering our soul is simply a logical step of his obsession. I believe all that has transpired with Sliske and us has been the will of Guthix.
To those cursed by war and pest, Come into the light of Armadyl and rest. This is the law of Armadyl.
