SPOILERS BELOW for the Miniquest "Raksha, the Shadow Colossus". This is a very short and easy miniquest with no requirements, so it should be easily done by all players. However, if for some reason you have not done it, you have been warned.

So, in the miniquest, Zaros says the following:

"They called it Raksha. Nothing quite like it has been seen before, or since. It was not just a colossus, but a shadow colossus. Its power came not from the elder gods but from somewhere... else. "

I added the emphasis here. My first thought is that Zaros is referring to Xau-Tak. It is likely that Zaros was merely referencing the mysterious shadow anima, but could Xau be the source of that?

So, uh... With the update involving Raksha, I think this really opens up all sorts of possibilities. Raksha is literally known as the "Shadow Colossus of Orthen," and the Codex (aka the Monolith) apparently was what gave Raksha its Shadow Colossus status. There's even shadow anima around its enclosure and in its arena! But shadow anima is poisonous to even the Elder Gods... Which brings up the question of how did an Elder Artefact get tainted with shadow anima? If the answer is Xau Tak, then that confirms it's at least associated with shadow anima. If Xau Tak isn't the answer, then... What is?

Possibilities:
- Random fluke - it just happened. no grand design. no plan.
- something inherent to Rashka. Rashka may have always had the potential for it ... even a touch of Shadow Anima. The Codex brought it out
- A bit of Shadow Anima was stored in The codex - Perhaps an Elder God (or one of the functionaries) came across a bit of Shadow Anima and stored it in the codex because that is what it was for. Much like how we store random relics in the codex. When Rashka came across it, there was a bit of fumbling, and The codex disgorged the Shadow Anima ... along with the other secondary effect sometimes of when something comes across an Elder Artifact ... and bam ... Rashka

Raksha probably was corrupted by shadow anima by getting in touch with the Codex, but it doesn't automatically imply the Codex has anything to do with shadow anima itself.

Remember Kerapac is able to manipulate shadow anima but it certainly doesn't mean he or anything in his labs contain shadow anima to begin with.

Jas talked about shadow anima as a form of poison or toxin to even the Elder God. A lot of things in Runesape are poisonous or toxic too. For instance, the frogs we raise in our POF2 are poisonous but does it mean POF2 or the World Guardian himself has anything to do with such poison in the frogs? Of course not, as such froggy poisons are organic toxins. They are produced by the froggies.

Likewise, shadow anima can be some kind of organic toxins produced by the infested beings themselves. Raksha could have been corrupted by the shadow anima he generated from his own body when he got in touch with the Codex. Think about the Codex as a communication device between Raksha and the being behind him (Xau-Tak most likely). Through the Codex, Xau-Tak was able to fill up Raksha's mind with corrupted knowledge which triggered Raksha to transform his body.

That said, anima and shadow anima can be what Aristotle wrote in De Anima - something comes from the SOUL of a being... and The Shadow was able to manipulate the soul of his victims and corrupt their minds and turn them into walking shadow anima. :)

If this is true, I wonder how the Codex became corrupted by Xau, since that was certainly not its original purpose.

On the original topic of the thread, it has been confirmed by Mod Jack that there is a definitive reason why Guthix thought Sliske had to be the one to kill him, and that we will be told that reason in future content. This isn't surprising in the slightest, but at least this is confirmed now :P

Again, the Codex, AKA the Mysterious Monolith is not likely corrupted. We, the players and World Guardians, are touching it everyday but we don't seem to have been corrupted or turned into demigods like Raksha.

We were already corrupted before we started touching it though. The only other non-corrupted entity we know to have touched it is Guildmaster Tony, who was pulled into it in the same manner as the Raksha, and may or may not be undergoing the same corruption process.

I am not talking about just the World Guardian, but also EVERYBODY in the Varrcok Archaeology Base Camp. The World Guardian is certainly not the first and only one who discovered and got in touch with the Codex. You should also bear in mind not just NPCs but the any player can touch the Codex, shortly after leaving the Tutorial Island and hence haven't done any of the quests and can't be corrupted.

There's no indication any other character has touched the Codex after it was reactivated. In fact, Zaros warned everyone to stay away from it after it had been reactivated. And after Tony touched it, no one else dared to go near it.

And Archaeology canonically takes place long after the World Guardian completes The World Wakes, as the only reason we are able to do the skill in the first place is because of Zaros, and thus at the very minimum means that we are supposed to have completed Fate of the Gods.

It is ridiculous to assume nobody else can touch the Codex, especially when it is not blocked off from the public. I also want to remind the announcement and the ceremonies of a player/NPC's advancement in Archaeology rank take place around the Codex. See the cutscene. Seeing is believing. :)

You are also obviously wrong that only the World Guardian can start training the Archaeology skill. Don't tell us everybody in the camp including but not limited to Professor Tony, his Deputy and such are all World Guardians. :D
