I played for a few years pre-GE but tbh I do think it makes buying and selling a lot more convenient and faster which to me is just really nice quality of life, especially now that I don't have nearly as much free time now as when I was 13.

I think many are converted and like GE. I like it.
Not really true. I like ironman way (even if my account is not an ironman, maybe next will be) but if you have to buy something, really need something then GE is better than standing in a bank shouting, not knowing the "real" prize.

The market ruined the achievement of owning something that is tradeable, because it took you so long to buy items or sell them ppl would grind the drops or get stats to make the item which is the way the game should be played, now everyone is just wanting to make money to buy gear, whereas back in the day you had to do so much stuff to get items and equipment, it was more fun and it was runescape at its finest,

you used to have a choice, get the stuff yourself like an ironman does, or wait to buy it from players, youre not restricted like an iroman but you still can play to get it not pay to get it, nowadays grinding for example for a rune scimitar or other items is just so innecifient its sad so noone grinds them they just grind the highest gp/hour and buy it, the ge ruined a giant part of osrs

Why would someone hate GE?

Because it almost entirely removed the need to explore the game and find things on your own.

Because it offers a single place where ALL bots can dump their ill gotten gains.

Because it entirely removes the players CHOICE to NOT buy from bots (using the grand exchange you don't have a clue who you're buying from and you most certainly enable bots to dump their wares easily when you use it).

Back before the first grand exchange was put in we could identify bots easily and many of us chose to not buy from them.

That's off the top of my head with very little thought.

You didn't need to explore the world or get it yourself before the ge. You just had to buy everything from a merchant, or stand around a bank with a trade offer. Much of the time, the bots traded to a merchant account that did not look like a bot. You likely were buying from them.

I believe the question was "Why would someone hate GE?". Seems unlikely someone who doesn't "hate GE" could answer for someone who does.

YOU not exploring doesn't mean that no one else did.
YOU not getting things yourself, doesn't mean no one else did.
YOU might have "had to buy everyting fromn a merchant" but some of us spent countless hours getting to know who we were trading with... and we traded with them daily... my son was fletching and I would buy logs for him.. from people I got to know when chopping trees. I would trade cooked for raw shark.. from peeps I fished with every single day.. while I was working on the cooking cape... and then turned around and traded the opposite way when others worked on cooking.

I, never saw a merchant until after the grand exchange was first put in to the game. Made it much easier for them to buy up all of a given item so I'd suppose that's another reason someone would hate it.

YOU might very well have been buying from merchants.. or bots. Some of us weren't.. and we were involved in the community enough to know we weren't.

I miss the days where half my friends list was of people I did business with. The Grand exchange made the game more convenient but destroyed a unique aspect of the game. The uniqueness of meeting and interacting with people out of necessity. People talked a lot more. I liked the idea of paying 10k for a knife in seers village because I didn't have the time to spend spamming it in falador. The person who jumped on the offer was very appreciative of the generous offer.
