I miss the days where half my friends list was of people I did business with. The Grand exchange made the game more convenient but destroyed a unique aspect of the game. The uniqueness of meeting and interacting with people out of necessity. People talked a lot more. I liked the idea of paying 10k for a knife in seers village because I didn't have the time to spend spamming it in falador. The person who jumped on the offer was very appreciative of the generous offer.

I unfortunately did not get to experience that part of OSRS as I did not come back to the game in that time period. I did however experience the game pre-GE from 2005 onward and I have to say it was a very unique experience.

I believe most of my friends in the game were made from the need to meet people to trade and barter. I remember banks being lively and people actively seeking goods all over Gielinor. There was more of a community aspect to it and the GE pretty much destroyed all of it.

I don't think the convenience of the GE it better than the gameplay that was pre-GE. I don't necessarily hate the GE, but I think I would like the game a lot more if it wasn't there.

When reminiscing of the past we tend to remember the good things, so while the community might have been tighter, aspects of the game felt very tedious. Often I'd decide to just keep cutting those yews because I didn't want to stand around Varrock West Bank repeating the sale offer. Or trying to decipher the wavy flashy lines. If I managed to log in to World 1 or 2 that is.

I remember what a breather the Grand Exchange was. Recently I've been talking about this with someone who played with me back then and we both felt like that was one of the best additions to the game.

Maybe it's my solo playstyle talking, but this was a needed change to match the new generation of players. I've seen this change in every MMOs I have played.

No G E is cool and all but it really gets old once the nostalgia wears off and you're stuck with items you don't want unless you spend 30 hours a day trying to sell it. There probably are people who love the idea of no G E though.

I don’t miss the days of standing for 2 hours claiming bank sale over and over competing with the many other players stood standing claiming bank sale bank sale!

The best aspect of this era was seeing what was in someone’s bank sale you could find a gem or two but the GE is much more convinient for the growing player base and specific items your looking for.

Edit: Most modern games tend to use auction houses in MMORPGs
