I'm not dead yet, this account was born in 2003! In my opinion everyone who enjoys playing Ironman will have positive memories of pre-GE days, as this mode does a good job of re-creating that nostalgic experience. My favourite aspect of pre-GE era was definitely the trading in big worlds! It was such a dope feeling when there is thousands of people spamming text and you try to get noticed by making yours in different colour, in flash1/flash2/flash3, or going to a less crowded area. Also when you did finally buy/sell an item that you wanted, you
saw
the person on the receiving end, instead of it simply dissapearing on GE. Maybe it was a lower levelled player that needed your old armour/weapon, and you could help them with something else?
Another aspect that I find nostalgic is how shops in pre-GE days could have items from other players, and could also be sold out of certain items - rune pickaxe in dwarven mine comes to mind. Even though I did eventually buy one, I remember hopping worlds and it was always sold out! Nowadays of course all shops are instanced and people hardly use shops unless its to buy bulk supplies.
