No one I hung out with grinded levels. All we did was PvM.

I don't know about you and I don't know how many pre-GE folks you know, but plenty of pre-GE folks I know used to grind levels in the pre-GE era.

When the game was new, players were low levels and PvM wasn't profitable at all so players grinded levels either for resources to sell or to level up for more profitable PvM activities. Now? most players are high levels and obviously they don't need to care that much about grinding levels for much less profits.

While I don't hate the GE by any means, I do think the game was better before the GE. Or perhaps I should say, "would be" instead.

I am very frustrated with the current state of MMOs. And one of the things I dislike the most is the current trend towards player control. Players deciding what gets developed. Players controlling the market. That kind of thing. I wouldn't say it's necessarily a bad thing. It's just that it inevitably leads to games becoming more and more one-dimensional. And it's also a root cause of dead content.

Since OSRS is essentially a nostalgia-driven game experience, I think it's one of the few situations where the level of control the players have is maybe appropriate. It also helps that the community seems largely on the same page as to what they want.

Then again, that's not always a good thing either. When a majority has a consensus and consistently votes in the content they like, the minorities are at risk of being constantly left out.

Anyways, I digressed a bit, but my point is that removing the GE makes for a healthier game economy, in my opinion. Instead of having a very clear set price for an item, it's more muddled and up to the players themselves to decide how much they're willing to pay.

But hey, my own distaste for player-controlled economies and the subsequent valuation of achievements is the main reason I play an Iron account.

Then eventually, no seperate identity number for same item on ironman mode, will even lead to item drop to another account, contributing to the economy again. We can't run away from the incomplete structural design by the developer. But though, I like your neutral and objective opinion. I would give you a cookie.

I am a pre ge gamer. The community overall was better in my opinion more social before the ge came. Now there are way more scammers. Btw if someone can please mute those scammer in the ge it would be nice.

If there now would be no ge you would be traded by mostly scammers and the ge is a great protection against unserious trades.

Edit: Another huge part before ge was price manipulations with clans. The ge has some trading limits so that merchers aren't that effective as before the ge.

I certainly miss the old times of standing in Falador/Varrock spamming the same thing over and over trying to sell stuff. Or negotiating prices trying to get the best deals. But I think the ease of the GE is certainly something I prefer today, as I don't really desire spending the little time I have to play, trying to buy/sell items.

Certainly appreciate how fast I can type now though because of that era.

I think that community existed because there was a need for human communication when it came to trading. However, with the implementation of the grand exchange that need for human communication when it came to trading has been taken away.

Hence in all honesty, I think that the community pre-ge has mainly been abolished. However, there is still something very similar that we have nowadays. Bulk trading of certain items like feathers, dart tips and runes etc still require that aspect of human communication as the G.E has limitations imposed on those certain items.

The pre ge trading community isn't totally dead, it still exists just that they're smaller in numbers now and probably are on a lower profile.
