RS3 and OSRS are both dying, OSRS will go further as it has sentimental value for a large portion of people who have played the game the last 20 years.

Again, RS3 can live on MTX but OSRS can't. Like all the 9 bazillion "dying" games, as long as the developers monetize enough without members, they can keep "dying" but never get shutdown.

Too bad for OSRS though, especially when they haven't even been able to monetize from Bonds MTX like RS3 as you think. :(

I am watching if there is new content worth playing.

Right now it seems to me there are low effort updates and increased membership. A lot of bots, decreased community (still large), too hard content to even consider doing, too much pkers.

A lack of Jagex community support. he game is still great but it is not improved in the last years with much effort. The game has a lot of old player potential and could be developed into a good game. Right now I play other games that to match better with my real life: Less time intense and easier to do (leave me alone with blood of theatre quests and without my qc I simply will not play the game).

Events like Leagues and DMM, and recycling and "prestiging" old content through "new" game modes like GIM and quest speed run are the mainstay of OSRS unfortunately.

If you watched the OSRS leadership livestreams, even their EP Markos and senior developers like Ash said they don't have any bigger plan for the future on the content side. It is up to the community to tell them. For instance, Ash said if the community want a new skill, then they pull all the developers from all the teams and work on the new skill, otherwise I think it will be the same old Leagues, DMM and copying RS3 content going forward.

OSRS was fun for the first few years. But being so far behind on updates, quality of life changes and having to basically play a little 'catch up' to get anywhere, I will never play OSRS ever again.

This is my issue. There aren't many quests, or a whole lot of new areas. There haven't been any new skills added, either. You get to a point (pretty quickly, too) where you've been everywhere, seen everything, finished the quests, and have done all the skills. Maybe not necessarily got all 99s, but it's not exact fun looking forward to burning logs, or pickpocket a trapped ardy knights. And to use fire making and thieving again, those two skills are pretty much useless on OSRS anyways, with huge gaps between levels and no content. I mean, 15 years without a new skill, that's pretty nuts.

The questing thing is another issue. There aren't that many quests, and they hardly ever add new ones. Of the ones they do have, there are a bunch that just end on a cliffhanger, and they never add the next quest in the line. There's only like 10 quests in the entire game that take a DECENT amount of training and and levels to be able to complete.

Honestly, I think the best thing they could do for the game is stop listening to players, at least SOME WHAT. Get a regular dev team and cycle, and stop polling everything. Plan content and start developing content to be released in the future, instead of bunch of idiots who don't know what's best for the game telling them what to and not to work on, screwing up the dev cycle.

They really should put just as much if not more effort and content into OSRS as RS3, since OS is the more popular game, with more players, and more untapped potential. The whole "keeping the game similar to the 07 version because nostalgia" only goes so far. Everyone that wanted their nostalgia hit got it years ago when it first came out, and tons of players are brand new. It's time for the game to grow and expand.

OSRS has no way to grow as long as it keeps trying to put all the totally unrelated content like DMM, Leagues, game modes like GIM in the same game.

The game is already "grown" like an abomination holding shattered parts together with duct tapes. For the game to actually grow, it needs to be broken down to individual functional games and let each game grows naturally. Otherwise, it is going to die, as in getting shutdown. It is just a matter of how much longer.

I definitely have to disagree with your comment of "lack of Jagex community support".

They have 4 CMs already frequently doing livestreams. They even have 1 CM begging every player on Discord not to RWT, and the other one spending 20 hours livestreaming other games like Guild Wars 2 and WoW while telling them she works for OSRS the past 7 days.

The problem is the OSRS is an abomination with different communities. Nobody from a part of the entire community should expect to get all they asked for from the OSRS community support.

When old players like you are playing other games, you should know there are better games than OSRS out there. A "good" game dying to better modern games that even old players are flocking to? How surprising? And that's how the "good" games like OSRS die due to natural selection. Really can't blame community support when the other games are much fit to survive than OSRS.

I recently joined an OSRS based clan (Lumby Lounge) and they're very active. I don't really see any evidence of it "dying," but rather people changing their player habits.

Obviously we don't have back-end access to statistics, metrics, and so-forth but it looks pretty active to me. :)
