Microtransactions are good business for MMOs and they'll keep the game afloat whenever membership takes a dip.
Why are people so naively loyal to the Jagex brand? If you're so annoyed about the state of the game then by all means leave. I really don't understand what's wrong with Jagex looking out for its own business interests...

@SakuyaIzayoi: How is the introduction of SGs compensating you for your spins?
@Vespire, micro-transactions are never good for MMO's with monthly fees
@Traci, it's fine if the game was 100% F2P, but it still did end up killing the game.

RWT is NOT ok. NOTHING about it is "ok". That loyalty thing - as the original poster of this noted - I will back 100% on. I have not bought one aura, nor plan to. It's all been clothing & emotes - my goal is to try & fill my costume room cabinets.
Everyone has a different goal on here - and Jagex keeps slowly trying to be more & more like the makers of OTHER MMORPGs and THEIR RWT store(s)!!!
If it's ok for Jagex to sell stuff, then it's 100% ok for ANYONE else to do it too. This is not a "do as I say, not as I do" situation - this is more like "all or nothing". SoF is NOT ok either... if I wanted to be playing a game where I needed more real life money to get things beyond my monthly membership, I'd be playing a different game.

SakuyaIzayoi - you're 100% right on the spins for people who already had quest capes. We got shafted, plain & simple. Getting punished, AGAIN, for being long-term players... SoF was designed to lure F2P into being members. I know, I have a F2P account too, and I keep getting spins that I'd have to purchase membership to claim. I discard them. I find it funny that my noob gets better spins than this account.
I have a LOT of spins coming to me from quests I did before that update...

and if SoF isn't able to affect the economy of the game, as Jagex has claimed that it can't before, then giving us our dues shouldn't affect it either, right? They're doing a nasty little double-talk there.

I'm just waiting for the jagex store to sell bots. If it's ok to sell monthly memberships then sell content through micro transactions and experience and gold (see SoF) like third party bot companies do. And it's all great to have new clothing that is untradeable but you pay rl money for it? (Trade laws mean nothing in video games) The next step will be Jagbot.
I see the time coming when players will not know who the gods are. What chopping a tree is for. All skills will be buyable with Real World Money. The same basis Jagex used to argue and sue bot companies is slowly becoming the basis of this game.
You people that think SGS and SoF are fine are extremely short sighted in that you pay two or three times for the same game. Monthly member fees+SoF+SGS=Extreme greed. I know you like the cool stuff and don't fault you for that. But! We pay monthly to play a game that should offer all content for that membership fee. We do not pay membership for a game or play a game to keep paying and paying and paying.
