Oh look, another free player complaining about Jagex taking measures to ensure that RuneScape still exists in ten years.

Look at the thread, it's three years old. I had been a loyal member way since 2005 (the forums even show my old title as that of TzHaar), and a free player for a couple years before that, but two years ago I chose to cancel my membership because of the increasing amount of updates that constantly violated the ideals on which this game was built.

Since you've played for over a decade, like myself, then you would know that this game is not the same game you played back then. Not just in terms of content, but in terms of the ideology which motivated it and separated it from every single other game that existed at the time*

Guess what? Many players, myself included, like Solomon's. We like promotional items and cosmetics and we like Bonds.

Perhaps this is because the players who don't like this stuff were forced to either accept it, or to leave the game behind? Would you say that bonds don't make this game pay to win?

Another fool who doesn't understand the way economics works. Three years later and nothing has changed, do you know why? Because the game is still around, that's why this hasn't changed.

If Jagex changed their course of action the game would go under because they wouldn't be able to support themselves anymore. You know you're smart when you want something changed at the cost of that something getting completely shut down, makes sense.
Tired of the promotions, dead, temporary and grind content? Support the Deadscape thread.
Runescape may be dying, but unless something is done; it will not die with dignity.

Things definitely have changed. Almost everyone I saw last year in RS3 had some sort of Solomon's cosmetic item, alongside the complete acceptance of buying and selling bonds. The way sociology works is that within the RS3 community it became so commonplace to see these things that you either had to accept it or leave. So many people were leaving at some point, that it was a good economic decision to open up OldSchool RS just for people who didn't want the micro-transactions or actually wanted the company to listen to its players.

Even that has become infected with bonds, but it is at least contained.

Using my ingame gold, I recently bought a whole bunch of bonds from the Grand Exchange, and redeemed them for *100 worth of merchandise from the Jagex shop (5 free TShirt vouchers, complete with free shipping and handling).

Seems bonds have made the game Play to Win. ;)

Only in the context of muh geepees, which I don't necessarily agree with on principle but I consider a necessary evil. Bonds were a vital blow against gold farmers and bots, which ruined the game economy for everyone. Two years later, we're still recovering from the damage. No, Bonds alone did not completely solve the problem, but they're an important part of the fight and they help a lot of players in different ways.

It's fine if you think you have to accept this necessary evil, knowing that there's little the players can do to change Jagex's minds, but we must at least acknowledge that they are evil.

I only have a problem with the people who have internalized their love for the game and associated it with agreeing with everything Jagex does "for the greater good"
