Yes, just like everything is a choice. I have the choice to look good, I have the choice to get maximum xp/hr on slayer tasks, I have the choice to do the new quests, but all of those choices provide me with an ingame advantage.

Now, of all those choices, only one lets me just buy my way into it, and that would be the Solomon's store limiting you from looking good, an important aspect of this game.

If there was no point in looking good in game, then we would not have cosmetics, heck we wouldn't even need graphics in the game, might as well go text-based. Jagex knows people want to nice in the game, and they are using that for profit.

I have no problem at all with the Solomon's Store. Mod MMG has already told us that the sale of SoF Spins and Runecoins was implemented primarily to increase the number of microtransactions in the game because, unfortunately, this is the best method that Jagex can use (without having to resort to selling Runescape gold, of course) to continue to prosper economically.

It's a shame that it has come down to this. I'm not ok with micro transactions being implemented into this game, because I know it will just lead this game down an increasingly terrible and crappier path.

I'm just waiting for the day when Solomon's store or some other micro transaction shop begins to offer buyable skill levels and gold. It may seem like it's out of the question now, but there was a time when even buying outfits with real cash seemed like it would never happen. But it's happening now.

"Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'."

Personally, I have mixed feelings about Soloman's store and micro transactions, but I would like to say; Folks have been talking about the death of RuneScape and whatever update/addition/content/lack of content was sure to be the cause of it since 2001. Yet, here we are.

Nigh twelve years of this game persisting should be enough proof that, for better or worse, it will not die easily. The one thing that might possibly have kept it going, (other than the pure love and dedication of players,) is that it has not remained wholly behind the times, while still of course retaining a certain nostalgic quality.

With such an absolutely vast market in customization and micro transactions available to games with large enough player bases, as proven in numerous other games, completely ignoring said market would simply hold games back. That being said, of course the whole situation must still be handled with some taste and discretion. In this case, limiting the product to the purely cosmetic seems to show a reasonable amount of the required discretion.

If nothing else folks, take your 200 free Runecoins and run :P I am very pleased that I can now wear a decent helmet and still have my Bunny Ears displayed. I've wanted to have the ability to do something like that for years, and our modern gaming world has seen fit as to grant it.

Half full folks, half full.

Thanks for the insightful response 1525,

I am not saying that Runescape is dying. In fact, I think the EoC is one of the best things to ever happen to this game. While the game itself is not dying, it is changing, and not all change is for the better. Of course, I have been here at least 2 less years than you judging by your bunny ears, but I believe that my 6-7 years of playing should also be able to tell when a game loses all the unique qualities that made it attractive in the first place.

While I really like the idea of wearing bunny ears as a skin over my normal helmet, I just think that such updates hinder the game while you believe that it helps it. It is my belief that items such as dragon keepsake boxes should be obtainable through hard work in game as opposed to real life. I would not mind the update as much if Jagex included a method of earning Runecoins without buying them, either through quests, skills, or minigames. That way, the company would be able to cash in on people's laziness while rewarding hard-working players with something awesome.

Just observing the latest updates, it seems as if more and more updates include something related to the Solomon's Store or Squeal of fortune and that the only real updates are extremely large and over-hyped.

Just my extra two cents
