1) If people actually stopped buying stuff with JCoins, Jagex will stop doing stuff like this.
3) People do care about looks though. If the way you looked was so pointless in this game, then it could just be a text-based RPG where people could just be told how much they hit. Jagex knows people care about how they look, and that is why they are selling cosmetic items.
4) I just did my research and found out that the rock allows you to teleport anywhere in the world an unlimited amount of times. How is that for an ingame advantage?
5) If Jagex uses the extra money to develop more items for a store that takes up money for development, all it makes is a recursive cycle in which the money from the store will only be used to make the store bigger, which will cost money, which will make money, which will make the store bigger...etc
