Also bump, still interested to hear more feedback on this compromise:

1. Introduce a new currency, let's say "holiday points" to give it a name.
2. For every year of membership that you've exhausted, you gain a holiday point.
3. During the respective holiday, once you've completed that year's version of the holiday event, you're able to buy alternate versions of that type of holiday's discontinued rewards with your holiday point(s).

IMO this would be a good balance and make you truly consider what you want the most. > )

Reading the last few posts...

I wanted to comment.

I am an adult and this game means as much to me as real life.

I would venture to say only my kids mean more to me...Anyone want a husband haha.

So reading the tread and i saw the comment that " your an adult but you would be upset
about a game" that made me laugh knowing how I feel about the world I have
created here for myself.

I have no objection to the untradeable rares coming back if there were some slight
distinguishable "copy" or original or even year gotten attached to it.

And Tuska your idea has some good points. I think in the long run it would be a
nice way of going about getting older cosmetics.

I would however be okay if Jagex decided to give past holiday items to contest winners in rare occasions, for example: If there was some kind of annual art contest, the first place winner could choose one non-tradable holiday item he/she wishes as a reward. They'd have to show an amazing amount of skill in order to win, so I feel if all they ever wanted was ears then they deserve it. Just don't be giving them out like candy to every lvl 3 who walks off tutorial island is all I'm asking lol, pls.

I get that you looked into having a way to be able to truly earn a copy of the old holiday items if you weren't there back then, but... don't you think something like this would be a bit too arbitrary?

As a Runescape competition winner myself, the prize that I truly care about is the one that was unique to the competition itself: signed concept art. Even though it took 1,5 years for Jagex to send it to me (lol), it's a piece of art that, to my knowledge, has never been made publicly available (I can't find any traces of it anywhere online at least), so I might be the only player in the world to own that particular piece (different pieces have been given in other competitions).

That's the kind of prizes that competitions should have IMO: those that are unique to that competition, so that not only are the prizes memorabilia, but also so that they inspire you to give it your all, knowing that the competition is likely the only way for you to ever be able to get your hands on that prize (if the winner doesn't give their prize away/sell it/etc).

So while giving the old holiday items as competition prizes wouldn't add much supply to them at all, the underlying fact still is that dozens, if not hundreds, of thousands of players have already been given them, so they're far from being unique to that player only.
Exactly.

No support for clones of the very exact item. Not only will it make the actual holiday items less special, but it solves nothing as those people who want the originals WANT THE ORIGINALS and won't settle for a cheap knock off.

I've wasted enough time here, continue to carry on being edge lords if you wish. I simply gave my opinion but at the end of the day my final conclusion is I give zero support to re-releasing the original holiday items again. As do many.

And i gave my reasons to why releasing identical cheap knock offs of the original holiday items are a BAD idea. At the end of the day i give full support to releasing the ORIGINAL holiday items again. As do MANY!

I dont see how it can be "cheap knock offs" if the untradeable holdiay items have no value.

Which has been said over and over.. In many different ways.

So just put year it was acquired. That would be even better.

I myself have missed 1(one) untradeable holiday item since the beginning and that
was christmas 2013. personally I would like to do the event to expeirence it BUT
I wasnt there so I dont feel I should get it. And in my heart that is how I feel about
all this. I tried to come up with ideas that were compromises but its like no one
wants a compromise.. everyone has their own idea on how it should be done and
the few pple that have been offering ideas as compromises are just being told by
other players that NO that isnt how I want it so its not good enough.

Life is full of compromises... too bad this is a video game where real life compromises
have no meaning.
