I can't agree that Jagex does nothing to try to control bug abuse/bots/cheating/gold sellers (among other things those lawsuits against bot developers must have been very expensive in real-world cash and Jagex executive/game designer time).
But I wonder about two things:
1. It's entirely obvious that thousands of accounts have gained levels at rates that are, literally, inhuman, and therefore those players are obviously cheaters/bot-users [a spectacular example is one of the banned bug-abusing acounts - max cash, max levels, two 200 million xp stats, all gained in less than a year and a half]. Jagex clearly has (or could develop) the ability to track abnormal growth in levels that can't be explained except by some form of cheating, and then ban the cheating accounts, but as far as I know Jagex has never done this. Why?
2. Why is it that almost every time in the last week that I have played the game I see ads for gold-sellers above the chat box on the main game screen [the current favorite seems to be offers for 50 million gold for 39 real-world dollars]? Does Jagex really have so little control over the game that Jagex can't prevent gold sellers from advertising on the main screen? Or do I have some form of malware? Or ...?
