Congratulations and Good Luck...I hope this means a noticable improvement in many aspects.
We have hope again...if nothing else.

The arrival of RuneScape Expansions this year marks a significant change in how the game evolves

Calling an update and new name 'expansion' doesn't mean anything...doesn't change anything.

What makes Menaphos an expenasion but Elf City was an update?
Stop feeding us advertisng and marketing spin to claim you are doing something different.

I was hoping a change might mean we no longer get treated like morons who can't see past the spin...I guess I was wrong.

OS = e-sports OMG give me a break
alt armies don't constitute 'player growth'

Pips...good luck but stop trying to treat us like idiots - this would be a good change.

If you look at Jagex's marketing strategy, it appears they're trying to bring the game to a broader audience. By calling the big updates "expansions", they have a better means of getting the game out there than to say, "Hey, check out this update!" By calling them expansions, it catches the eye of the more MMO-savvy players out there that see, "Oh wow, I didn't realize RuneScape was doing expansions now," and they may end up re-subbing or subbing for the first time, hoping to give the expansions a try.

In technicality, while the expansions aren't TOO different from the big updates we get now, there is a bit of a difference. Jagex said they're going to start producing expansions as much bigger updates than the standard "big" updates we got before expansions were announced. In between expansions, we'll still get the smaller QoL-styled updates and bugfixes, maybe a quest or two here and there, skill reworks, etc, but the primary focus of marketing will be to get the word out about the new expansions.

And in all honesty, Jagex has been calling the big updates expansions in marketing since 2014 when Prif was released. "Lost City of the Elves - The First Ever RuneScape Expansion!" was something often seen in article titles on MMOG sites. In my opinion, there's absolutely nothing wrong with calling these big updates "expansions", because that's what they do- expand the game. It's more marketable, it's free for members, and can only really do good for getting more players in the game. I honestly think F2P should be able to get it by paying a one-time fee like standard MMOs do, but that's a debate for another thread.

People complaining about "expansions" even after learning they're not going to charge for them are just complaining to complain. I understand the concerns but Jagex has already addressed them time and time again.
