The arrival of RuneScape Expansions this year marks a significant change in how the game evolves.
Exactly wtf does this mean? In other games, when they announce "expansions", it usually means something that the player has to pay extra for.

We announced expansions at RuneFest last year - they are larger development releases, focused around themes or specific areas of content. They are not extra content to purchased separately. The first of these is The Golden City of Menaphos.

I missed that post in the earlier part of the thread.
I see I wasn't the only one who was alarmed by the use of the term "expansion". Maybe they should pick a different word to describe it.
