Jagex names Phil Mansell as acting CEO following Rod Cousens departure
Mansell also takes the permanent position of COO

Phil Mansell has become COO and acting CEO of Jagex.

He was previously the VP of Studios at the Runescape maker. He takes up the role following the departure of CEO Rod Cousens.

Mansell is an 18-year games industry veteran with stints at Bullfrog, EA, Sony and Climax in various lead game designer roles. He joined Jagex in 2011 as a lead designer and has risen through the ranks to head the studio. He has been credited for encouraging a resurgence in player growth for Runescape and the Old School version of the game, which helped the developer post record financial results last year.

Former CEO Rod Cousens joined Jagex just under two years ago following a 12-year stint at Codemasters. No reason for his departure was given.

In September last year, Jagex was acquired by a group of Chinese investors and became the core part of a new publicly-listed Chinese games business called Zhongji Holding.

"Driven by a passion for creativity, our teams are focussed on what really matters for the core business - supporting our live titles and their huge communities and leading the creation of new games for multiple devices," said Mansell. "Off the back of record financial performance, Jagex is in an incredibly fortunate and positive position. We have become stronger with every year that passes and now that we are united with our parent company, ZhongJi Holding, it is both an honour and a privilege to be take Jagex to its next stage."

Jagex's current strategy is focused on expanding the Runescape franchise, with new games based on the IP and expansions to the existing titles.

55% of Jagex is owned by Insight Venture Partners.

Dear Mod Pips,

congratulations on your new role.

As you claim to be one of us I suspect that you also read this comments. So I want to use this opportunity and address a big issue that only you can change, as sadly it got ignored without even any response in the past: The customer support for foreign languages.

Since 2012 Mod Argus has left the company there was never a replacement for him. The german community is since he left without any customer support for their languages. And this is not an issue only with the german community other languages dropped customer support as well like dutch. Sadly I speak not good enough Portuguese or French to know their situation. It worked somehow out in the last years. But is this really the way you want to treat your customers? Some customers may not able to write in English and so they can't contact the English customer support.

Please think about it.

No their bought by a Chinese mining company.

Not according to Insight's own website. There is no proof other than random news organizations claiming that Jagex was bought by a Chinese mining company.

Well since you supposedly are responsible for overseeing other titles go do the FunOrb community a favour and hire a small dev team for it.

It's been over 5 years now.
The german runescape community has much more paying members than the funorb community. however since over 5 years we don't have any german costumer support. Why they should hire a dev team for funorb when they didn't invest in a much bigger and important community? Sorry to say this, but funorb need to be fully recoded as html5 is the only way for such website to stay today.

Don't get me wrong. Won't blame your community but I don't have hope either.
