"It is business as usual across Gielinor!"

Yep, its gona be BIG business. Once the Chinese take over, we won't have anything more to say, and th will be all over the place. No more ethics**** will be MILKED untill the last drop.

I need to start with OSRS asap!

You do realise the new investors could order OSRS to have microtransactions?

If they put more microtransactions into OSRS the players will quit, guarunteed.

Before people freak out that the Chinese are buying Jagex, you should know that Riot (league of legends) is totally owned by a Chinese company too. And they are doing great.
The difference is Tencent already owns other companies in that field. The company wanting to buy Jagex is a mining company.
*Literally* a mining company. Iron ore and mining.

They are trying to expand their own brand.

They have cash, Jagex has "plans".

You are right, this marriage doesn't seem to mesh too well.
You never know, but ...

It's a company quickly diversifying in an attempt to prevent bankruptcy because their main business area has failed.

What cash?

There's actually a news article out on them already.
The company did well for a while. Ran into competition and poor expansion. Then shut down a number of operations.
But apparently they didn't burn through their cash reserve.
They just hadn't done well in 2015. But they had simultaneously cut off some expenses.

It's a bit like you just got laid off from a job, took a min wage job while keeping your current life style, then eventually just started a new job.
In the end, you probably didn't put a dent in your savings account ... you just didn't really add to it either.

My main concern is, what if this company has no relate-ability to your western market? I just hope they do not drive the game content. How do you think your customers will react to know a Chinese investment company would like to buy Jagex and run it. They're likely only buying it for monetary interest and I doubt they have customer satisfaction in mind. Plus, they have a lot less in common with the market than IVP.

If the acquisition does finish, I hope the best for RuneScape.

I hope everyone a good day. :-)

In the end:
We're scared.
We're worried.
We have 0 information on what the plans are.
We are all addicted to the game.
We know some of what's happened with other companies in the industry.

For all we know, this is just a company trying to use JAGEX as a lotto ticket but they have no intention of doing anything other than throw money at the devs and say "do your thing, just make us money".
Jagex's accountability is just that: make money.

The bad news is what happens if Mod Rod's team doesn't meet expectations, or worse?

Odds are, then yes, we get to see a new management team.

I don't care for Jagex's financial decisions so long as I can expect the same creative quality and treatment of Runescape's customers, which is what we're all concerned about. I hope that this iron ore and mining company will allow Jagex at least 80% creative and customer care liberty on decisions that matter the most.

I'm not too surprised something like this has happened. All venture capitalists do the same thing - Buy something that looks like it's going to be worth more money in the future, bleed it dry like a parasite, and then sell it off before the value drops away.

Not that I'm really bothered any more. As you can probably see (or will in a month's time at least), there is no member's badge by my name. I've been a continuous member since the first few months of RS2, but I can't be bothered any more. I've seen a game with a truly innovative and interesting plot, mechanics that meant you could literally do anything with a single character that any other player could (no classes like all other RPGs) and most of all ETHICS (Pay your membership and everyone is equal)...

To a game where every month is filled with pay-to-win gambling promotions and at least 1 update a month that requires a month of constant grind to complete even if you're maxed out.

Playing this game has become a burden, and the more the player base has dwindled, the more they squeezed the MTX to wring money out of the remainder. I gave them a year to reclaim the spirit of the game. They promised in their manifesto to tone down the MTX, but like politicians after an election they reneged on their promises and pushed MTX even more.

Well sorry guys but the remainder is now a little smaller; I'm officially giving up on something that my heart left long ago. I've got plenty of stuff in my Steam library to keep me busy. For your sake I hope things don't go catastrophically wrong.

See you in a week
