I'm going to wait and see where this goes before commenting, this is quite similar to Eve in the sense of game wealth -> premium user status, but does anybody else remember those two guys who bought like I think it was $30,000 worth of Eve bonds using a fairly pitiful amount of game currency and then just blew up the ship they were toting them around in for $#!7's and giggles?? I think it was rated in the top 10 dog acts online along with Fally Massacre

Myself, while I generally see this as a good idea, I confess to being confused as to how this combats gold farming. It seems to me that by implementing an in-game way to purchase membership with gold, you've actually created another incentive to gold farm.
The addition of bonds to the game is only part of the solution. Jagex has invested, and will continue to invest, time and technology in to tackling gold farming. This has already caused the price of gold being sold by goldfarmers to rise.

At the same time gold farmers must now compete with the players themselves so whilst it is becoming more difficult for gold farmers to operate they must also try to reduce their costs. This is what will kill gold farming.

Please explain to me why enforcing the rules against buying GP from RWIT sites would not provide a better solution. Ok, give amnesty to the disgusting 40% of the play base you know cheated, but please confirm to the honest, loyal 60% of your player base that this will not be allowed to continue now that bonds have been released.

Enforcing the rules against RWIT would be a good compliment to bonds and make us honest players feel that you care as much about us as you do the cheaters who damage the game and go unpunished.

Our rules on real world trading have not changed. The current rules state that game items must only be exchanged for other items or services within the game. Bonds are an in-game item in this respect and work the same way as any other item on the Grand Exchange.

Trust me I know what the rules say. I am asking for a pledge that they will now be enforced and not ignored with a wink-wink nod-nod.

I honestly think this is better than buying from third party gold sellers. I don't mind jagex attempting to make money off this, companies need to be able to make money in order to thrive. If so many people are going to buy gp, they may as well do it a legitimate way and not ruin the economy by introducing money that gold farmers have obtained. We should keep an open mind and see how this plays out, it is the first day after all.

Nononono...

We all know that this system doesn't work in games like these, they've all been doomed and now we're taking the same path..

JAGEX! You better have something good also...

Not everyone, I have friends who believe this is a good idea. It was also mentioned it the video that bonds can be used to donate to charity come November. If that's not a good thing I don't know what is.
Anywho, I'm sure jagex will be able to find out who is buying gold and wipe/ban them. They have no reason to rwt using third parties now. So gf anyone buying from third parties.

JAGEX Said: Why are you adding Bonds?

With this update, our aim is to unlock your investment in your account: giving hardcore players a way to get more than ever for their time and dedication, and more freedom for everyone in how they trade. On top of that, we hope to see this open up the full members' game for many more free players, those who can no longer afford subscription and - crucially - to deal a death blow to the long-standing issues with gold farming.

Arc Replies: Seems you just want to make more $ off players. Get rid of SOF & Solomon Store. More monsters & monster loots plz.
Best wishes to all.
Jagex declared WAR on April 2nd, 2012 by implementing MTX.

Obviously they have to do that to make themselves look good, but it doesn't really help considering the majority of this game are immature and selfish, would never donate anything.

After watching the video, it kinda looked and sounded like a wildlife documentary, or one of those environmentalist commercials. Couldn't help but chuckle a bit. I really hope MMG is right about this though :\ The last thing the player count needs is another big update gone wrong. Really miss those days when the player count was at 200k or so. Hopefully one day we can get it back up to that.

And to any possible J Mods reading this, could you also act against the bots in RSC? We're a part of the community too. Thanks!
Looking at my post history in 2022 has made me realize I may have had a very minor case of serious brain damage as a kid.

This is very simple to understand.

Gold farmer bots farm the game for resources and sell them on the ge to get gp to sell to customers.

Jagex comes up with an idea,
How can we make more profit?, idea comes from the back of the room, "how bout we sell the gold that the players have earned in game".

Selling gold that is already currently in the game = bond

This is way worse than just selling gold outright like the sof does, this takes it one giant leap forward, now jagex is actually selling gold that is already in the game. In other words we pay to play the game and now Jagex can profit off what we earn playing the game.....
