i've been trying to see how to work this, thanks!
now i know
There is a way to make it generate a number code that you can write down so if you loose your phone all you need is that number to input after downloading the app again & it syncs with the one on your account. From what I remember it's done by telling it you can't read the code it puts in some box, I think it might send an email with a code on it you can use instead, probably to the email linked to your account or it may show it on the screen when your trying to get it to generate one. I know I have trouble seeing some of those distorted codes due to age & eye sight cause some letters can be hard to tell if they are caps or small letters or a number instead. I hope a Jmod can answer this thread to tell you where to find a way to do this without your having to guess, since it was so long ago for me that I set mine up.

I got Authenticator on my iPhone & I tell it to remember for 30 days. Why is it then that it randomly makes me re-input it sometimes a few days to a week or 2 weeks from when I last did it. It rarely seems to make it 30 days.
Dynamic IP addresses (meaning it changes over time) vary based on internet service providers, though you set the authenticator to 30 days, your ip info can change in 5 days prompting you to reuse the authenticator since it doesn't match the trusted device info or something like that before the 30 day period is up.
I believe the Authenticator should be attached to all new character creations, making everyone's account safer and hopefully reducing security issues.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
I was approached in game by two scammers/hackers. They said we have been watching you and we would like you to become player moderator..
Well it was late and he had weird emblem in front of his name, so i went to lobby as he said, then he gave me link in chat to a website that looked just like Jagex, there was form that i had to fill they asked literally everything, from pass. word, bank pin, to day when i started playing.
When i filled all those questions on that site about my account, i quickly went to change my pass. Word, because i had bad feelings about that what was going on.
Then i said, okay i filled them now and send it, he said. Okay just a second sir, after that he asked me. Are you using authenticator sir?, at that point i got already warning that someone has tried to access to my email which i used to create this account.
And to that question i just said, Yes, i do use authenticator, then he said, okay there was some kind of error at application. what is your phone number?, well i was tired and it was late i gave it, He said.
Okay, we will send you sms text as jagex, please give me the code which you will get. Well i got a text but i saw it came from microsoft, and it was code for recovery, well i first gave them false, though it would work out, but then they said, are you sure this is right code?, and i got another text and then after small talk i gave that code to them, immediately after my account logged off, after that i could not sign in anymore with email that i have been using.
Well then i went through runescape website trying to find out were i recover my account,
after 3 hours i got reseted my email back.
And thank's to the runescape authenticator they could log in to the game, I was so sure that one big stupid mistake ends my runescape playing.
I tried to contact jagex about this but. Everything is good and my account is safe.
Sorry. I am from Finland my English may not be correct, ill try my best
