JAG has not been removed, so no worries there. not removed *yet* is the term they evan say it will be removed completely it rubs the lotion on its skin or it gets the hose again

What If I don’t have a smartphone/device?

The Windows authenticator will also work with a windows pc or a Mac, so you’ll be able to get the code directly from your pc. However, we strongly advise you install this app on a different computer to that which you play on, in case either computer is compromised – so your account isn’t immediately lost.

Is it as safe as JAG?

Yes, the Authenticator is more secure than JAG as you always need access to your phone or device – hijackers from across the world won’t be able to access that! The authentication code will change every 60 seconds and so is not guessable, whereas JAG questions were unchangeable and in some cases, could be guessed.

What happens if I get a new phone?

You can reset the authenticator by email.

JAG works, why come up with a straight up Niche system like this, AND remove Jag?
I say niche because why do you expect all 13 year olds, even though this game is largely played by mostly late teens and 20 somes, to have smart phones?

Also, why only 30 days? I want to do it once and forget about it until I need it again.

i too have no smartphone - nor do i have a spare pc to get code - will stick with jag - its a very good system - if jag gets turned off and my account gets hacked - that will be the end of my runescape experience - alternatively if jagex would like to send me a smartphone that would be ok.

Logging into the companion app is now officially impossible without a computer as trying to lookup the code on my phone and then logging in is impossible to do within the time that it takes to switch codes, please look into this because this completely renders the companion app useless when you do not have a computer available to lookup the code.
