To all of you guys who said that the "Refer a friend" policy would end up with Jagex selling gold and XP for real life money: I am so, so sorry. I called more than one of you "complete *******" in-game.
You see, I didn't mind EoC. I kind of liked some possibilities it brought, actually. I migrated to OSRS because at this point you clearly don't give a damn anymore about the so-called "main-game", and I think it is better to restart the whole thing with a development team that actually cares despite being small than staying at a dying game that was abandoned by its own company. EoC isn't the problem, the problem is that by the time I left everything I did resembled a rotten version of World of Warcraft, with bad world events (and I mean really bad. For god's sake leave those to people who know what they are doing), combo-based PvP that sucks because every combo-based pvp system must include movement and positioning in order to be successful, a de-emphasis on grinding in a game that has always been about grinding and instanced areas when one of your main selling points is the lack of those.
Really, the only thing you included lately that didn't have a superior version in other MMORPG's was legal real-world trading and XP-selling.
You overthink every quest, which is bad when you are an idiot, you force players to swallow updates when 80% of your game is essentially dead content that could be revived and you spit random numbers that actually mean nothing (90% of the players do their daily spins, which means 90% of the players ENJOY THE SQUEAL OF FORTUNE) in order to convince us, and yourself, that you are doing the right thing. But what really sucks is slowly coming to terms with the fact that you simply don't care about building a playerbase anymore. Immediate returns for your misguided efforts is all that matters.
