A new type of pet is now available from Solomon’s General Store.

Greetings, adventurer.

The bravest among you may have tried your hand at taking on Vorago, the newest colossal entity to appear in Gielinor.

What you may be unaware of is that pieces of him can break off, and these pieces have minds of their own! Indeed, you can now adopt one as a pet – I present to you the Vorago Shard .

This fabulous rocky companion is yours to adopt and accompany you throughout Gielinor. The Vorago Shard is the first companion pet . Companion pets perform a unique emote on your command, and can be recoloured to your liking.

Note that the Vorago Shard is distinct from the recently released Vitalis follower pet.

You keep talking about 'companion' or 'follower' pets - what does that mean?

Over time, we've built up several different systems for cosmetic pets within RuneScape. To avoid confusion, we've come up with three categories for the pets within the game.


What are those categories, and what are the differences between them?

Follower pets are the ones you'll likely be most familiar with. These are pets that follow you around in game and will talk to you, but have no gameplay functions beyond that. They are obtained through gameplay - as quest rewards, as drops, or from Summoning stores. Some - but not all - have growth stages.

Examples include the Baby Troll, God Birds, and Vitalis.

Companion pets are a newly released category. Obtained from Solomon's General Store, these pets have an activated emote and can be recoloured through the Customisation Interface. They cannot speak, however, and do not grow or have gameplay functions.

Currently, the only companion pet is the Vorago Shard.

Legendary pets are available from Solomon's Store. They have three stages of growth, have emotes and animations specific to each of those stages, and can be recoloured and renamed. They have a number of useful gameplay functions too, such as gathering dropped items and depositing items to your bank.

Example are the Skypouncer, the Blazehound, and the Dragon Wolf.


How do pets differ from familiars?

Familiars are the core component of the Summoning skill. They are temporarily summoned and have many powerful gameplay functions.
