While I agree that construction needs an extreme restructuring, as well as summoning and agility, I for one am still aching for a smithing revamp. It is still my favorite skill and only my second 99, and I just hate how the only real updates it gets are add-on content (like obsidian armor. Absolutely no application outside a certain small area and limited application within it), or updates to the speed of gathering experience (Artisan's Workshop was nice and stopped it from being another money-sink skill like Herblore). The only step that I've seen in the right direction for smithing was its integration into Player owned Ports, by making the high-level armor craftable only by a high smithing level.
Now, hear me out. Since you've recently released level 90 equipment in the form of Drygore weapons, it seems feasible to me that equipment will be released all the way up to 99 (as tougher bosses come out, etc.). I think the best way to revitalize the old skills is to make this max level gear non-tradeable, and only craftable through the skills linked to the class. For example, I should be able to smith rune at a much, much lower level than 99. This will not wreck the economy because the materials are still very scarce. At 99, I should be able to smith the best, un-tradeable, max level equipment in the game. Likewise, at 99 crafting I should be able to craft the best range equipment in game, as well as the shell for the best magic equipment which could then be enchanted by a max level mage.
Basically, I love smithing. I love the cape, I love the concept, but the reward for this time-consuming, specialist craft should be much greater.
P.S. Could I also get a Linza pack at Solomon's? I love her hair/outfit.
